I am thinking of this school as a safety.
i really like it because
of the liberal inquiring atmosphere
generous financial aid
has a program for future architecture student (which is rare for LACs)

However, what is hindering me from applying is

that it seems really rural
and is not considered a very competitive school.

what do you guys think about Knox?

When Knox college sends you their applications they ask you- Are you Knox?
Not everyone will be happy there. Small college in best traditions of LAC and it is in small suburban city. But you do not go to Knox to be in Galesburg you go there to be at Knox. It has large international population/ compare to size/, gorgeous library, suite dorms, professors that will be your friends as well as mentors.
Knox is well known in academic society. If I had to describe this school in one word I would choose- dignity. There is genuine respect for everyone around there and sense of pride.
Library has no bar codes and includes some rare books such as first edition of Galileo and First World Encyclopedia.

hahaha it sounds like you are implying that you can sneak off some rare books in that library ^-^

Knox is one of my safeties. I got in this week, and I got a lot of merit scholarship money. I think it's a great school if you don't mind being a little cloistered. Also Knox is probably an advantageous place to apply to grad school from.

The most common profession for Knox grads is teaching (high school I'm guessing)...which I'd never want to do.

I still haven't been able to find out... Is Knox mostly conservative or liberal, student body/professor wise...

My roommate from last year graduated from Knox. The impression I got from her is that pretty much the town is the college and the college centers around the town (typical college town for LAC I suppose). They produce a lot of graduate students doing wonderful things right now and it's a great place if you want to continue a sport in college while still focusing on academics. She played DIII soccer for Knox and also completed her Biology degree and is now a 4th year PhD student at UNC on a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. There are many other success stories I've heard about students going to grad school as well (I know of 2 Knox grads at UNC).
