I like Goong :) Joo Ji Hoon is so adorable.

Anyway, if there are anyone going to USC, let me know! Never thought I would go to USC, but the full scholarship is just too good to resist :p

UCSD for me!!!!

Nice nice...from CC I think JR and heythatslife are going to cornell...

hello~ I'm korean too!! currently a freshman at princeton ( class of '09!!)
any soon to be korean princetonian here??? :)

nice nice... it'd be nice if I got into Pton... still waiting for the decision. I probably will get rejected though... Ugh... how come Canada gets the mail so late...???

I'm korean probably going to USC! WOOT. I didn't like Goong so much (i didn't like Yoon Eun Hae from the start) I do like the comic book version much better (i'm so happy they made the designs into real clothes! (half dress, hanbok clothes)

i got into harvard, brown and swarthmore and a few others, but those are my top 3 choices. i didn't go to hakwon either.. nothing against it, just chose not to go

I got into Umich, UIUC, and Grinnell so far and got rejected from those stingy private schools maybe because I applied FA I guess? I didn't go to hak won or sth like that at all. no yu hak won, either.

About the soap opera, Goong, well, I just liked the guy only!
He is sooooo adorable!! :D

If you needed to go to hakwon to raise your scores then you weren't gonna get into good schools anyway. If you're a good student and do well at school, then there should be absolutely no need for hakwon.

heythatslife- are you headed for Cornell or is already in cornell, i'm guessing? (ithaca) I didn't go to hakwon and I really don't give a crap. I hate how korean people are always like "OMG IVY LEAGUES! YOU DON"T GET IN AND YOU'LL DIE OF STARVATION! (ok that was overexaggerated..but)" Or some crap like that

i need serious help guyz. does GPA really matter?? my GPA from 9th to 10th was around 3.95 but right now (junior) everything is just ****ed up!!! 2A 5B 1C. will this be critical?ㅠㅠ

What's the GPA right now? THat sucks that you just messed it up right before your senior year... It might be crucial just because you had such a good record going.. (i gave up straight A's soon as i started taking honors and AP math.. cough)

i don't know the GPA right now.. but somewhere like 3.4..i know it's really depressing.. i also got straight A's in my sophmore year but right after i saw my C. downhill............. that was my first semester grade and i hope to get better in the second semester.. (up to now i have like 1 B or somethin'. but have to wait till the end,, )

junior year GPA is pretty important. I know that I got a 3.1 or sth freshmen year but got 3.9s 10th and 11th and i think that saved me. I can only say it'll hurt u.

About the Hakwon thing. Hakwon certainly isn't necessary for u guy who go to international schools, 민사고, 과고, 외고. But for us 일반고 students it's really not a choice. The English subject in 일반고 is a joke and u can never follow anything doign that type of stuff. However, i would say limit hakwon. Like go there to raise ur SAT( most koreans don't have access to any of that stuff) and then quit. I did that and did all the other stuff by myself. Hakwon sometimes can open up doors. I know how many times i felt stupid after my rejection from Daewon but a teacher at one hakwon helped me really improve my english not just SAT and i really tahnk him for that. I am going to Columbia because he really encouraged me to look beyond 수능 and 서울대.

Dude i don't think its going to be 3.4. Sit down and calculate your GPA. Its not hard. (do it from freshman year you know the steps...: 4 for A 3 for b, blah blah) just calc it on your own and come up with the correct number. I got whole bunch of B's and C's from AP chem and AP calc BC and mine managed to be still 3.7-3.8 ish.

I got accepted ED this year, so I'll be there this August.

To be honest, my parents aren't exactly too happy that I settled for Cornell ED and didn't shoot higher. Like I was gonna get in HYP anyway. I'm bit of a country person so no other place suits me better.

Oh yeah, about hakwons, if you want to go to Korean universities then they are helpful, I agree. But if you are aiming for US schools, and you're not in Korea, I'd say you're better off spending that time and money on some other worthwhile ECs.

I go to hakwon for school subjects (calculus and chem) but not for SATs.. I dont even think there's an SAT hakwon here..?
But IF I was living in Korea, and I was aiming for Seoul med or something like that, I'd definetly be attending hakwon everysingle day like all the other students in normal highschools.

!!! hahahaha!

I've seen SAT hakwons in Seoul, and I've heard also in places like LA or Vancouver where there are lots of Koreans. Since they are there, obviously there must be a demand for them too.

uyulove... 3.4 for is only for my junior year.. i think my overall is something like 3.7-3.8ish but college look at the grade separately, don't they? i don't know.. this GPA is killing me/..

etheralkev, ohhh **** congrats. being a korean and living in the same area as you this news brings me vicarious joy :D. i bet your family and church members went nuts haha. brown sounds like a great choice. best of luck at whichever college you decide to go to! i have one question, which one did you apply ED?

amongst the seniors in my school (burnaby north), there is 1 cornell acceptance...1 yale rejection...and that's all i know so far lol
but most koreans are: UT, UBC, SFU :P
