My son is in the process of applying, he has finished the app, essay, SAT, letter of rec, put in for nominations, only thing left is the dodmerb and the cfa, well and the waiting! Does anyone know how much emphasis is put on each section (SAT, cfa, extra curriculars, etc). My sons SAT's were good he got a 1490, his academics and ec's are good, a little worried about the cfa, that will be the hardest for him. It's been fun reading all of your posts!

your S has plenty of time to prepare for the CFA (3+ months or so??) - if he hits the gym and focuses on the pullups, pushups and situps he'll be fine. there are previous posts here about techniques for the BB throw and shuttles. then he just needs some road work for his mile run - he can alternate that with a rowing machine if one is available to build stamina. good luck.

the CFA truly is exhausting. have him work with one of the PE coaches at his high school (i had my weight training coach help me get in peak shape). what makes it hard is the short break time between events. it all builds up.
hit the gym now and he'll be ok

is2day: it's not that bad, and I did it with a stomach virus. It does work on you though.

kpwehope: If he runs a few times a week and does some lifting he will be fine. I completed it during my offseason training for track with one of my coaches and then had my soccer coach run it. The critical reading and math sections are what count, unless they have changed that. My class was the first to take the writing so it was not counted. If that 1490 is reading and math, they will let poorer scores on the CFA because that is really good SAT scores.

Yeah he got a 770 in critical reading and a 720 in math--so you think they will give him a little break on his CFA? He's been hitting the gym, it's only the push ups and pull ups he's having a little trouble with, everything else is no problem. He's still got a little time to work on it.

"Yeah he got a 770 in critical reading and a 720 in math--so you think they will give him a little break on his CFA?" Don't bet on it. It's not a small part of going to an academy, don't kid yourself. Each of the academies are very physical and those who are not in shape do not succeed. He does have time to get in shape to work on his upper body strength. Weights might also be the order of the day to help.

I'm not that big of a guy at all (6'1" 140 when I completed the CFA) and it wasn't that hard. The physicality of this place is not that hard. But if you really think that he will struggle on the CFA he better get to work, but it won't be that hard. As long as he passes it he will be fine, he doesn't have to excel at it. If you see some of the people that get in this place, you wonder how they got in here.
