So as the college application cycle winds down..I'd like to add one more uber safety school, both academically and financially to my list. And since I have relatives in Kansas, and they recommended the schools, I'd like to add one of those, but I'm not sure which one.

So for those that have experiences with either school, in terms of social and academic life on campus, is there a big difference between the two?

Any other experiences/opinions are greatly appreciated.

Two great choices! Both are in nice college towns. Lawrence is a bit larger and less remote. K-State is known as a more conservative, traditional Kansas school. KU is liberal for Kansas.

Academically, K-State is a typical ag school with very strong engineering, agriculture, architecture, and science. KU is better for the humanities. Still, both are pretty decent across the board.

Both campuses are very pretty.

In terms of cost, you are probably too late for scholarships at either. I think K-State is a bit cheaper OOS…?

EDIT: If you are a transfer, scholarships are probably a non-issue.

I live about 30 minutes from Lawrence and 2 hours from Manhattan.

Social: KU is more diverse than KSU - racially, politically, and economically. The students are KSU are friendlier but more conservative. KU is a party school… Lawrence is a party town. Parties can be found at KSU, but not to the same extent. Aggieville is like a smaller Mass Street. They’re both big schools. At KU, I definitely felt how large the student population was. KSU is different… the campus is bigger and more spread out. It didn’t feel as big as KU.

Academically: Overall, KU and KSU are about the same. Each have great programs, like noimagination said. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. If you’re into agriculture, definitely apply to KSU.

I’d also like to mention that Lawrence is only 45 minutes from the Kansas City metro of 2+ million people. Manhattan doesn’t have much around it except Fort Riley, Topeka, and Junction City.

These universities are my top choices because I’m in-state. I can’t make up my mind but by this list, it looks like I’m leaning towards KU. I apologized if this seems too biased… :)

My daughter is a graduating senior at K-State and is continuing on to vet school there. She has LOVED K-State since the first day she set foot on campus – and she grew up in Connecticut! Feel free to PM me with specific questions.

I know getting into the KU architecture program is relatively difficult relative to getting into the K-State architecture program (dad’s friend’s son wanted to major in architecture, admissions counselors at KU told him to reapply until he got in, cause chances were he wasn’t going to get in the first time, whereas at K-State he got in the first try)

I’m in a similar bind. Trying to decide between the two (KU and KSU) for a Marketing major. Which is the better business school if you plan to move out of state after college?
