Kudos to Ole Miss - Worthy of Serious Consideration

After three weeks of excruciating decision-making, my son finally decided to choose a different school, but that decision was based only on one factor (an already in place accelerated program.). But for that program, for which Ole Miss did not have something comparable, I am sure he would have chosen the University of Mississippi. On many counts, Ole Miss excelled: price, scholarships (especially if one has multiple kids going to college within a year or two of each other - merit aid requirements more liberal), special programs, freshman year experience programs, friendliness and a general attitude to go above and beyond, gorgeous campus, wonderful town square within walking distance, and other factors, too.

I write all this to encourage others to consider Ole Miss, especially if considering similar southern flagships. Mississippi offers a lot, and for a lot less money (at least for now) and if my son could attend two schools at once, he would, because but for the one unique program offered at the other school, he would gave been headed to Oxford. In fact, my other kids, set to go to college in Fall 2016, have already decided that Ole Miss is the school for them.

Thanks to those in this forum who helped me out with my questions. I am so glad that I will eventually get to go back to Oxford when my other kids enroll (fingers crossed.). Ole Miss is a special place.

Hotty Toddy!

I was impressed also. My son visited Ole Miss and one other school that was offering a National Merit scholarship. Ole Miss was by far the nicer campus.

By the way, Chesterton, I like the name! ; )

The above reasons were the reason my son picked Ole Miss. Everyone we have talked to from current students to recent grads have all loved their time in Oxford. The freshman FastTrack experience looks like a great program that my son will enroll in as well. Of course the hour we spent at my fraternity house helped seal the deal.

My son just graduated from Ole Miss…we are New Englanders and the thought of a southern school was pretty foreign. However, he has loved his time there and the cost, even out of state, was more reasonable than any other out of state option he was considering up north. There are some things I would change, but really more to do with my son than the school:)!
