For offering it's students the chance to take a tuition free semester this summer to help make up for time lost in the fall. A friend's son is heading back there today to begin his summer semester.

mhc48:
I'm a parent of a freshman who is starting his Lagniappe semester today and I am thankful for the free tuition. (Still have room/board and fees to pay, but it's a big help). S's girlfriend there was only allowed to take 9 credits at her "Katrina semester" school because they started 3 weeks into the semester. She, my son, and many others, didn't get a regular fall semester---in SO many ways. This definitely will help.

Another appreciative family. And thanks, mhc48, for bringing it up.

S took a full load at Bates for his Katrina semester. Took 15 credits at Tulane in the spring. But the 10 credits he's taking in lagniappe allowed him to take a slightly lighter load in spring (18 credits would have been normal), do 2 music credits each term, and still get all the courses in that he needs for the major.

Plus he loves New Orleans and his Tulane friends and happily headed back there last week.
