Hey, for all of you cs (L&S) majors out there, I was just wondering, how big is the workload there at Cal? About how many hours do you study a night? Is it hard to maintain a 3.0? Thanks!

yes.. very hard.

that doesnt necessarilly answer my question.

It's just impossible to answer your question. Or put better, someone might answer your question, but it wouldn't be valuable for you. CS is a difficult major. Some people are cut out for it, some aren't. There are a lot of math requirementts for it. Some people study hard and do well at math, some people study hard and do poorly. It depends on your aptitude more than anything. CS is one of the majors where aptitude is extremely important, as important as hard work.

That said, it's really hard for almost everyone.

To the OP, Kenf1234 nailed it right on the head. The material in the classes for L&S CS (and EECS...both have similar lower div classes) is extremely difficult for a majority of people. The curriculum goes by super fast. If you are going this route, expect to find that you will spend several hours a week on the HWs and labs.

However, I have met people who just "get" it...some are just wired that way.

But it should not matter if CS is "hard" or not. This is my first semester, and I will admit - CS here is hard...but I love CS. Even though I am slow at understanding concepts, it's OK for me. I found my passion, and that makes me lucky.

Most people who go through college never do.
