I'm going to be applying to cal next month, and I really dont know if I should apply to CNR or L&S. Cal has been my dream school since I was in middle school , but I know I probably won't get in, my stats are not the best, but I think I have a good personal statement and a lot of community service. I have nothing to lose by appliying.
I would like to attend med school in the future, so I thinking about applying to L&S as undecided or CNR- MEB.
Is is true that L&S is easier to get into than CNR? Does CNR accept spring admits?
I know I am the one who has to make the decision, but I would really appreciate if someone could give me their opinion. Where do you think I should apply?

It doesn’t matter what you put down. I put L&S and my stats weren’t that great but I still got in. Put whatever you want. It really really doesn’t matter. people used to tell me that and I didn’t believe them, but it’s true. : ]

Ok thanks :)

No problem bud.

Getting into either school for Fall admission is roughly equal difficulty; however, by applying for L&S you increase your chances of getting in because if you are on the edge, L&S can offer you spring admission, which CNR can’t.

i’d do cnr. the selectivity is pretty much the same but cnr treats its students much better. better advisors, specialized sessions, free printing etc

I’ve seen several people have good luck getting into L&S and then transferring into CNR.

Also, if you’re looking at medicine, you’re almost certainly going to want to go for an “easy” major. I don’t know what the difficulty/time commitment involved with the CNR majors is generally taken to be, but Berkeley is a hard school and thus not very pre-med friendly. I learned the hard way that easy trumps interesting for this.

Don’t the applicants with the strongest stats apply to L &S? Does anyone know what the acceptance rate for CNR is? I’ve looked for it but haven’t been able to find it.
I really like CNR and I don’t know why I feel like I HAVE to apply there. I really don’t know what to do cuz I really want to get in.
Does anyone know what the stats for Spring admits at L & S are?

My stats are
4.1 W
3.8 UW
In state.
~ 3.9-4.0 UC GPA
~500 extracurricular hours
Good personal statement.
I’m still taking standardized tests, aiming for a 27 or more on the ACT.
Where would you apply?
Thank you

I’d’ve thought the applicant stats were approximately uniform across the board, actually. Admit stats would likely be biased higher in CoE and CoC (I’ve been led to believe that BioE and Engineering Undeclared at Cal are the two most competitive majors in the entire UC system with regards to admission), as would attendee stats, given that they’re known internationally for being among the best in the world and are less likely to lose people to other institutions.
