Hello. I was wondering if students need to show their lab notebook to place out of a science course at UMass Amherst in addition to a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. My AP Chemistry teacher tells me that colleges need your lab notebook to place out of a college science course and I'm not sure that's true.

Yeah, my high school teacher told me that too. It’s not true at UMass though. I got credit for AP Chem just for sending in my 4.

Here’s the thing. Colleges CAN ask for your lab notebook in order to give you credit. It’s a way to ensure no one is cheating. But, the majority of the time they won’t. They most likely will when they’re suspicious of a student cheating. Besides that, you should be fine. But it’s good to have it just in case!
