when the requirements for med school says one year of organic chemistry with lab, does it mean we need to take 1 year of the orgo lecture along with 1 year of orgo lab, or just 1 year of lecture with a semester of lab ?

1 year of orgo lab.

i think its one semester of organic lab.

The requirement is two years of "core" chemistry, including at least organic chemistry, with two years' worth of lab.

Do you have pre-med advisers at your school? I recommend that you ask them about completing pre-med requirements. At my college, general chemistry is not offered, but medical schools are aware of this and accept the pre-med track that my school has specifically set out. Even if this is not the case with o-chem at your school, an adviser can help you figure out exactly which classes fulfill the requirements.

Your school... doesn't have genchem? (Harvard, I know, calls it "Inorganic Chemistry" - is it just referred to differently?)

My bad - that was incorrect. We have only one general chemistry class, and there are no labs. Therefore, one year of gen chem + lab isn't possible. Med schools understand this and do not require students to fulfill the requirement elsewhere (thank goodness).
