labs at UNC

I am a bio major doing pre-med (transfer), I have to take a physics II lab and o-chem II lab. I basically want some info on how labs are structured at UNC.

Physics labs are part of your 4 hour credit physics lecture and usually count for 25% of your grade. You go between 2-3 hours one day a week to lab and then write up a lab report, that takes about 4-6 hours, to hand in the next week.

Chemistry labs are really outrageous. They count as 1 credit hour on their own and you usually spend about 4 hours in lab once a week. On top of that you have to write up a lab report that can take between 4-8 hours to write up.

Do you have to take Chem 241 AKA Analytical? Pre-med students who want to go to UNC for med school are required to take this.

I know that they offer an exam that will give you credit for the 1-credit-hour chem101 lab. I was hoping to do that b/c I've already taken AP Chem but decided not to take the AP exam. Was anyone able to get the credit for the lab? Was it a fairly routine exam?

I certainly will apply to carolina med school, but i do not wish to go unless that is one of the only places i get accepted to. I want to get out of nc for med school lol. So i guess I'll have to take analytical so i can apply to med school at carolina. I also heard that analytical was required for all pre-med bio majors anyway?? those lab reports sound a little outrageous, i could write up a physics report in 30 minutes and a chem report in 2 hours at my old school lol... oh well if a write on them a few minutes each day i will be fine, thanks guys.

Yea, I know labs are outrageous, but it's something everyone has to deal with. Analytical is required for Bio majors but it's not necessarily required for pre-med. Since UNC does not offer an Organic I lab, students take analytical and its lab to replace it.
