"If your overall favorite is also a match school, apply ED to increase your chances. Applying ED to a reach (including a reach for all) can lower your effective chances at a match, unless your match favorite has a second ED date."

OK, my overall favorite is pomona, but its a reach. Should I still apply there ED? And if i get rejected ED from pomona should I apply to Williams' second ED because its my next choice even though it is also a reach?

Applying ED generally increases one's chances of acceptance, especially at match schools. If Pomona is your overall favorite, and you think you have a decent chance, then by all means, apply ED. But if your GPA and SATs land you towards the bottom 25% of the previous admitted class (as indicated by CDS info), then you can actually hurt yourself because you are then unable to apply ED to a match school where it would realistically increase your chances (unless the school has a second ED date).

ED also makes more sense if you either qualify for full aid (need or merit) or don't need any aid; being in the middle can be tough, if the ED school says yes but doesn't offer enough aid to allow accepting.

Some schools are open about being non-need-blind, such that needing no aid increases your chances of acceptance.

I'm sorry that this is not a yes/no answer; it usually depends!

Our posts crossed; IMHO, I guess I'd say yes and yes, but also be prepared for nays from both, if they're both true reaches, and then be prepared to apply to many matches, because it's possible to have "bad luck" at ostensible matches, too, and you used up your ED bets.

Ok back to the original purpose of this thread. If Pomona is my first choice, followed by Williams, would I be a competitive ED applicant at either of those two schools? Keep in mind that only 1.6% of Williams' students come from the Rockies and a similar percentage exists at pomona; this could be a potential hook. And does anyone else have opnions on my chances at the other schools I listed?

if you don't plan to play soccer in college your soccer profile is pretty much useless. colleges are looking for those who can contribute to the school so if you tell them you're not interesting in playing for the school then they will most likely base their decisions solely on other things you're willing to offer. so if you're not stellar this can be difficult.
