LAC Choice Help? (Psych major)

Top 15% of my very competitive class. 3.73 GPA on 4.0 scale, SAT Breakdown: CR- 660 M- 700 W-690 national honors society, study abroad, 100+ community service hours, tutoring experience, involved in many clubs (leadership role in 2), amazing recommendation letters, stellar essay

Colleges I plan on applying so far (by preference):

  1. Dickinson College
  2. Franklin & Marshall College
  3. Lehigh University
  4. Syracuse University (safety)
  5. Hofstra University (safety, already applied)
  6. UMass Amherst (financial safety)

Ideally, I want a small-medium Liberal Arts School with a great Psychology department and also a Spanish program. Another necessity is study abroad and I would prefer Greek life. I really want to apply to 2 more schools just to give myself more options. So, any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Also, I am considering applying EDII to Dickinson, any thoughts?

Albion College in MI is a small LAC with an excellent Psych dept., has a big Greek presence, and would admit you with your 3.73.

Bucknell, Lafayette and Gettysburg, Colgate is a bit of a reach but worth a try.

If you are looking for other safe/match options and merit $ consider Washington College, Allegheny College, College of Wooster

I think you have a great shot at DIckinson, especially ED. How about Denison?

My D is at Lafayette and is a psych major. Loves it. She is in a sorority and is involved in multiple research projects with professors. If you want any information you can PM me. She also did like F&M and Dickinson as well as Union in NY. We didn’t look at Bucknell but I agree that it is another good option.

Holy Cross, Bucknell.

Dickinson fits like a glove, so IF it works financially, then EDII would make sense.

Good luck!

If you would like to become a clinical psychologist, look for colleges that provide the opportunity for a field placement as part of their undergraduate program.

I was going to suggest Dickinson as I started reading your post, but see that you have already discovered it.

Once you have found some colleges of general interest, you can research to what extent they are strong in the major branches of contemporary psychology: clinical, cognitive, developmental, educational, personality, physiological, sensory and social. A good program will have both range and depth.
