Son has applied to and been accepted to several colleges so far. He is thinking of majoring in business but not quite sure of which path - accounting and finance have been discussed as well as international business and actuarial sci so he is unsure and that’s ok! My question is some of the colleges and universities have business schools, Fordham, St Joes, Seton Hall and Fairfield to name a few but one in particular, Wheaton in Mass, has a business degree Business Mgmt I believe , BA with “concentrations” and not AACSB accredited. This school has made him a most generous offer so trying to get info on if it is worth keeping on the list.? A few other smaller schools he applied to are similar have Business dept but not accredited and I just have no idea how important this really is? Thanks for any input
Accreditation is a must if he is serious about looking for some of the more competitive jobs and companies. If he just wanted to work in a family biz, for example, it might not matter, but non-accreditation is a red flag. Of the schools you listed, Fordham and St. Joe’s are known to have excellent business schools. Good luck to your son!
Thanks, I assumed so but before we start removing colleges I had to put it out there This will make it easier.
Lots of non-business major graduates do go into “business” jobs after graduation. However, this may be easier from higher prestige colleges (e.g. Ivy League colleges without business majors, Claremont McKenna, etc.).
You may encounter more than one kind of business or accounting accreditation. AACSB is the one to look for.
