LAC with above adverage film programs

Hey there, I'm a rising senior in highschool and am VERY much interested in going to a Liberal Arts College for my undergrad. The frustrating twist to this is that I am extremely devoted to both Film and English and plan to double major in these subjects. Though there are several very well regarded film/art schools all over the country, I don't feel ready to limit my studies to just film and english for four years. My question for you is, are there several colleges you could reccomend that have over the adverage 'film studies' classes, preferably with more hands on experience?
Any feedback will be helpful in narrowing down choices.
Thanks.

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. It’s a great university that does offer merit based aid and the film school is highly regarded. Here’s the link…

Thanks momfirst3, the fact that Layola offers merit based aid is extrmely attractive. I’ll deffinately check it out.

Kenyon College is a top LAC, located in Ohio. It is very strong in English and theater/film. Paul Newman went there and gives generously to the college. They also give some merit aid. Here is a youtube link to their film-making club:

It’s also beautiful!

Wesleyan and Occidental (in LA) have great reputations for film.

[Film Studies - Wesleyan University](http://www.wesleyan.edu/filmstudies/prospective.html)

[Occidental College - AHVA Home :: Film & Media](http://departments.oxy.edu/film/)

As a Wes film major, I definitely second Wesleyan! The film major is great (both as a course of study, and as a relatively good base to start a career if that’s where you go – ever heard of the Wesleyan Mafia? Because people in LA have…), and we also have a strong English program.

Also check out Vassar and Oberlin.

take a look at Chapman University in Southern California (Orange). Although not exactly an LAC by true definition, it does have a small undergraduate student enrollment, 4,500.

It’s film program is considered among the best in the country, along with USC and NYU’s.

Also, Oberlin (OH) has a Cinema Studies Major and CT. College has a Film Studies major.

Wesleyan, without question. the networking available upon graduation is simply amazing… so many heavy hitters in Hollywood… plus, there’s a brand new film studies building

I also would recommend Chapman for film.

Check out Bard College. Strong in both film and English.

Kenyon
Oberlin
Wesleyan
Vassar
Occidental
Chapman
Loyola Marymount

There is your entire college search list. Now go forth!

Oh man, you guys are fantastic! Thanks for responding so quickly. I’ve heard a fair amount about Vassar and Wesleyan’s film programs, but Chapman, Occidental, and Oberlin I knew next to nothing about, let alone that they were strong in film. These seem to be schools that range in location, which I’m guessing can be good or bad, depending on what I do with my time.
Do any of you know what the internship/job oppertunities are like at any of these schools for film undergrads? From personal experience even?
