Lack of available EC’s?

Hello,

I am currently a sophomore with a good GPA (4.6 weighted, 3.94 unweighted) and high class rank (top 1% of the class of about 400). However, my school lacks many of the extracurricular activities that other schools seem to offer such as mock trial, debate team, and others. I am involved in the standard activities such as Beta, NHS, community service, etc but was wondering how much the lack of available extra-curricular activates would hurt me in my college applications.

Thanks.
Dabu

which schools are you looking at?

I would love to attend Columbia but I understand that this is a long shot for almost everybody. As far as match and/or safety schools go, I haven’t really decided. I plan on majoring in Computer Science and/or Political Science (Depending on availability of a double-major) and hope to eventually attend law school. Any recommendations of colleges are welcome as well.

um...well...you could always start your own club...

Yeah you should definitely start your own club...and get everyone to join. A girl at my school started her own Make A Wish Club and it was the most popular club in the school. We're all sure she's going to get into a good college

just start a debating club.. that way, u are president of a club and an active participant :D

my school didn't have a lot of available EC's

i started a few clubs, but my resume still seemed "short" compared to some kids who have lots of things available to them/

in the end, it worked out fine, as they didn't hold it against me, and i got into some good schools.

....take initiative, start your own clubs, and things will work out fine in the end.

I'm starting a math team/club at my school next year!
Mu alpha theta doesn't do anything, just dedicate and do community service. So, we'll hold practices and go compete with the team now, instead of random people with no practice with each other.

You can always look for ECs outside of your school.
