I just had a question for any current Cornellians and/or recently graduated alumni... I have heard lots of good things about Cornell's pre-med opportunities. There are lots of good chances for research and wokring in labs with the many researchers in different topics on campus. My quesiton is about how Cornell premeds get their almost-required clinical volunteering/experience before applying to medical school? Most places have a nearby medical school and/or medical center-hospital where they can easily hook up with to get volunteering gigs every week during the academic year. However, Cornell's medical school is in NYC and their closest medical center (Cayuga) is roughly 15-20 min away (or longer with public transportation)...So how does one get the pretty much necessary hours upon hours of clinical volunteering in at Cornell? I would love to have some place to go to several hours a week during the academic year where I can get some clinical experience in.

There’s a nursing home on campus, you can ask to volunteer there. Also I did majority of my clinical experience over the summer since college students get such long summer vacations. Over the summers, you can email doctors at your local teaching hospital and ask if you can shadow them for a few weeks or something.

One advice though. 1 meaningful experience outweighs several soso experiences so dont shoot for #.

Thanks for a response! I looked into the opportunities and such like nursing homes and things. I was just looking at hospital/medical centers because that would allow for a consistent weekly clinical experience for years which is what I thought would be good…Is the Cayuga Center accessible for bus easily?
