Lack of ECs

I attend a small school, and while size isn't a big issue to me, the number of ECs is. My school doesn't offer options of National Honor Society or Student Council or what other places might consider "basic" ECs. Where and how should I indicate that on my applications? I don't want to sound like, "Well, I would've joined more and have more to give you, but my school isn't giving them to me." I do my best in my ECs (mock trial, NFL, and math club pretty much).

If you want to note it, the best place would be in the additional information section. I think you should try your best not to make it sound like an excuse though.
Most colleges (those outside say the top 20) don’t really weigh ECs too heavily, if at all. So if you’re not apply to a top school, then you don’t have to worry about it. However, if you’re like the rest of CC, you probably are applying to a top school. In which case, these schools will take into consideration you go to a smaller school which has fewer opportunities. However, these schools also look for students who find a way to overcome such restrictions. So it would really behoove (always wanted to use that word :P) you to not sound whiny.
Also consider that ECs aren’t strictly limited to school. Do you have any hobbies? Do you do anything outside of school? Martial arts, piano, knitting, ships in a bottle?

You could have also started certain clubs, which would show initiative and leadership, in order to overcome a small-school restriction.

i would note that in the additional information section but emphasize that even though your EC’s are limited, you still participated in a variety of activities

Thanks, I will put it into the additional information section. I think maybe I could leave it out since those activities have taken up alot of time anyway. My hobbies consist of music, writing, and anime. I’m not ashamed to tell colleges about it, especially since it has shaped alot of my opinions and past decisions. I don’t do anything else outside of school except church activities.
