Lack of openness with clothing attire

I am of the conviction that that WHOLE LOOK is on its way out...leggings...big tshirts...huge sunglasses...Rachel Zoe (stylist to everyone...Mischa, Lindsay, Nicole) is gonna face serious backlash once the first trendsetter puts an end to her reign of the fashion kingdom.

Here it really depends. There are some very definite groups:

The sorority group- They wear the pointy-toed shoes and tend to wear the name brands as much as possible. Yet they're also the people who wear Ug boots with short skirts (I STILL hate those things!!!) Oh yeah, AND sometimes they'll wear high heels with sweatpants...It's mostly sorority girls who dress that way though.

The hippie group- Don't really know how else to describe this style, but the girls wear the really frilly skirts a lot with those shoes that are a kind of mesh style.

The try to be as professional as possible group- This is the one I would put myself under. They tend to dress up a lot, and don't really own too many pairs of jeans.

The I don't care group- Basically, they just wear whatever they want, and don't care what anyone thinks.

I can't say one group is seen as better than the other. We definitely know which groups people belong to, but nobody really cares.

I think it depends on the school's atmosphere.

In my opinion, popped collars are for people who want to look like tools. Buuut that's just me and where I'm from.

Wow, threads like this make me really happy to go to school in NYC. The wardrobe here runs the gamut from preppy to all black or business to so bright it looks like Betsy Johnson's closet exploded all over someone. It's great.

The only real trend I've seen is the huge numbers of girls who wear patterned rubber rain boots. It's an across the board thing, it doesn't stick to one group or sorority. I've even seen a professor wearing them...

I pop my collar daily! but I attend an upper middle class high-school, so don't know if theres a difference between High School and College. I only wear khakis about once a week, I usually stick to jeans. I don't thinkI;ve evr gotten any wierd looks...

I hate ugg boots and I don't understand the point of wearing them with skirts and leggings. Ugliest trend ever..IMO

no, ugly is the saggy draggy pants with 'waist" about at the mid thigh

if you gots to walk around holding oyur pants up, they be too byg

Unfortunately I have to agree, Rachel Zoe has ruined the lives of so many females. Why, why can't such people embrace healthy style? And since when did 5'2/105lb start getting called "healthy" as though it were some euphemism for fat??? The stick-leggings/bug eyes+sunglasses/long-formless-shirts-to-emphasize-lack-of-curves thing has GOT to go.

Ugg boots have to be worn by the right girl to look good. I have a friend who calls them "slut shoes" even if she can pull them off (she's anything but a slut, which is why she thinks it's funny).

In any case, on a typical day I wear a polo shirt and khakis. Shorts if the weather calls. With shorts it's flip flops on my feet, and brown loafers with khakis. I really don't wear jeans much at all unless I'm working around the house, and the only place I really wear sneakers is to the gym and to walk. On cold days I will wear sweaters over those polos, carefully picking my colors. I own two jackets, both ski jackets. Both are from Abercrombie & Fitch, one is a blue down jacket from last year and the other is an old blue and gold one from many years back (which I wear on warmer days). I also wear print pants now and then (but not as often as my friend who refers to Uggs as "slut shoes"--there's this group shot of everyone and I'm wearing khakis, she's wearing plaid print pants, and everyone else has jeans on).

My brands of choice? Abercrombie & Fitch and Polo Ralph Lauren. Lacoste is good too, but I really don't have that much. A&F/RL are my top brands for polos, shorts, occasionally a t-shirt, boxers, and print pants. I get Gap shorts in addition to A&F ones and I have to get Docker's socks because they make good comfy khaki ones. For shoes I like brands like Rockport, Deer Stags, etc. Flippies I get at A&F. I like to get my undershirts at AE--they sell tees pretty cheap and in a good variety of colors. I love it when A&F has their $6.90 tee sale--usually I get a few then as well.

I don't wear hoodies. Ever. And I don't wear t-shirts really unless I'm at the gym or something, and even then I have been known to work out in muscle-fit polos.

Everything also has to be coordinated for me. Undershirts are either white or they match the horse/moose on the shirt. Same deal with the sweaters--they have to coordinate with the polo underneath it. I even go so far as to coordinate my boxers, yet nobody ever sees those (I'm just OCD about them).

Even my jackets are sort of coordinated--navy blue goes with anything you'd see me wearing with them like khaki pants and my white Volvo 850.

I'm usually the most dressed up at my school. Abercrombie is big here, RL and Lacoste aren't. Most people here seem to wear the same hoodies every day or just tees. And I'm almost always the only one wearing khakis.

As far as double polos and popped collars--I've done both. I love that style! It's timeless.

what are ugh boots?

citygirlsmom-

touche

gimeurstresballz-

what are ugh boots?

They are these really ugly boots from down under which cause your feet to smell like really old cheese after 30 minutes of wear. And, they are over priced.

lol ugh...ugh indeed! They are spelled UGG. I think it is all caps. I keep my feet clad in penny loafers or sandals, so I do not know.

AFPrep850: I think your style is cool. Except that you pop your collar. Asides from that, you are cool.

Rachel Zoe has yet to hit where I live in full force. I think that is because there are too many of us gals who are cut thick over where I live in Memphis. I do not know, I am just glad she never took off here. Like, I am a bit under six foot, when I stand up straight, there is no way I am going to diet down to 115 lbs. for some speed freak looking fraud and poser like Rachel Zoe. That gal is one of the worse examples of a stylist ever.

^OMG! lol, search online, and its spelt UGG. I used to wear them all the time, in about 2000! lol I haven't seen anyone wear them since like two years ago, they're totlly OUT where I live...All my clothes either come from A&F, hollister, american eagle, or nordstroms. And what's this business about not wearing hoodies??? I have at least 3 from A&F and 2 from hollister. I always have to match the color of the bird/moose/pony on my shirt to my undershirt too! lol but I have an undershirt/cami and a polo in like almost every color so thats not the problem...oh, and I wear jeans a lot, I absolutely LOVE the way Abercrombie and Fitch jeans fit, and I also like Sevens. I don't get what's wrong with jeans, there an essential if you ask me. I'm also obbsessive about jewlery, I wear bracelets to match my outfits, and ever since I got pearls for my birthday, those have been a big part of my wardrobe. Hmm lol I guess thats all, oh and by the way I live in OC.

^Are you in high school, per chance?

Just because while everyone I knew in high school was all over Abercrombie (Hollister wasn't born yet- I. Am. Old.), they seemed to grow out of it pretty quickly. Coming from someone who is also from Orange County.

And yo, say what you will about Zoe, but she's laughing allllllll the way to the bank. She gets paid tons to travel the world and shop and dress people and inflict whatever fashion horrors she wishes onto us. Not such a bad gig.

who cares if it's spelled UGG!? One thing for sure is that it's UGGly! (haha) You know when the trend is awful when your professor is contemplating whether to buy them or not!

And I do believe you're in high school also since you used spelt instead of spelled. Before you criticize people on how to spell UGG, speak for yourself.

I believe Seven jeans were made popular to the public because Fergie mentioned it in that stupid song "My Humps". And those fake pearls, are out (at least in college).

I've worn Seven jeans for ages, we're talking 5-6 years. The fact that Fergie mentioned them in that awful song made me want to burn them.

Everytime a highschool kid says what they wear, all the college kids are like, "Oh, that's so out". So, uh, what's "in" in college? How to the freshman adjust? Hahaha...

I have been on college campuses and the style looks pretty damn similar to what you see in highschools. Maybe nobody is wearing Abercrombie jeans or polos, but whatever they're wearing /looks/ like Abercrombie jeans and polos. I think the college kids just want to seem more "grown up", lol.

Especially since Abercrombie jeans really do rock. I won't vouch for the boring polos and hoodies, but the jeans...I have a love affair.

Agreed about the sevens thing. They were popular at my high school as far back as 1999. They are most definitely not a new fad and most definitely not popular because of some lame song.

And I don't mean to say that wearing abercrombie is bad or "out" or whatever, it just tends to be a fairly young look. Seeing as though high school students are their primary demographic, this is apropos. When I say it's a young look, I don't mean wearing single pieces from the store, but more the whole abercrombie "look' with 15 various matchy pieces. It can be cute, but it's young.

Wear what you want at college. Trends will vary depending on where you are. But I see people in designer stuff everyday and I see people in levis and school sweatshirts. It doesn't really matter, especially when you have to wake up too early for class. No one cares what you're wearing.

In my high school, nobody wore Seven jeans and it was never mentioned until that song came out.
