Lack of SAT subject tests

Will not having taken SAT II subject tests provide a disadvantage at colleges that don't require or even recommend SAT subject tests? I have taken AP tests and did well in them: 5 in Chinese, Calculus AB/BC, US Government; 4 in Chemistry and Literature. Also, I have a 35 ACT composite so I will send my AP scores and ACT score for my test scores.

Where are you applying where this is a concern? You have such a high ACT composite that schools don’t need subject tests unless they are required. What is your UW GPA? Do you need additional subject tests to bolster a lower GPA? that would be a different scenario. The AP scores don’t matter as much as the grade you receive in the AP class. So, if you don’t have As in the AP classes you might want some high subject test scores to bolster the grade.

First, you should NOT send in any AP scores. You only self-report them. No college requires (or wants) the AP reports. Once you are accepted and agree to one school, then you can send official AP reports to that one school only.

Second, with regards to subject tests - if your colleges do not recommend, or require them, it won’t be held against you. You clearly are a good test taker and your ACT and your AP scores reflect this. No worries.

If the school do not even recommend it, you don’t need it. There are only a dozen or so schools require SAT2 when submitting ACT. And for those highly competitive schools that recommend SAT2, one should treat it as required. Otherwise, you are fine without taking SAT2.

The main school I am concerned about is Vanderbilt. My UW GPA is 4.0 (4.458 W). I had A’s in the classes, but I figured the 4s and 5s would help boost my application.

^ If you are talking about AP scores, they have little impact in admission.

If you take a minute and look at the Vandy website you will get your answer. http://admissions.vanderbilt.edu/faq/application
