Lack of work experience

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in my sophomore year of college (accounting major), have a 4.0 GPA and taking 18 credits per semester to retain my (4 year) scholarship, which is very time-consuming and has resulted in me not having much free time to having a job of any kind. (I've never been employed, aside from a desktop publishing internship in high-school). I hope to get one or more internships in the years to come, but will my lack of experience totally kill my chances of being hired after graduation? Thanks in advance for your responses. Be easy on me, as I already feel like a failure lol.

Many companies are hiring summer interns in Accounting. They also understand that most sophomores will not have much experience, so you are ok. You shall start checking out who is coming to your school to recruit now. I have checked frequently my son’s school’s career link and found many companies are looking for accounting interns. The summer recruiting season is starting now so do not wait any longer.

Most college students do not accumulate relevant work experience until junior year. You can just put courses you’ve taken that applies to a specific job or internship. Courses along with your 4.0 should be enough to get you something junior year.
