I'm currently a Junior at a pretty competitive high school in California and have a 3.9ish UW and 4.6 weighted. I have gotten 2250+ on my Sat, 750+ on three of my SAT Subject Tests, and am in 4 varied extracurriculars, in which I hold significant leadership positions. I've gone through some prestigious internships as well as considering submitting an Art Supplement (I'm decent at my instrument but not absolutely amazing).

Problem is I don't have any significant national awards, published any amazing articles or research, or anything of the "stupendous" stuff that generally characterizes accepted applicants. The ECs I have participated in have done quite well as a team in the region and state and I note that in my essays, but I can't really put that in my awards section.

Obviously this is kinda general, but what do you all think is the range of my chances in Stanford or any other Ivy?

you’ll get into your top colleges, maybe stanford or maybe not stanford. but it seems like you’ve got a lot of other things going for you.. so yeah. you’ll be fine :D

1, you don’t need national awards to get in to a school like Stanford. I know that’s what it seems like, but I assure you that isn’t the case. Pretty much every person that gets in is deserving in one way or another, but it’s not necessarily because they won some national science/math/kazoo competition. Anyone who tells you otherwise either didn’t get in, or has their head so far in the clouds they’re dodging satellites.

2, no one can tell you with any certainty what your ‘range of chances’ are, especially at a school like Stanford. Every year there are a ton of surprises, with people who thought they were locks getting rejected and people who thought they had no chance getting offers of admission. All anyone can do is encourage or discourage you from applying, anything more you’re told is, for all intents and purposes, pure conjecture.

That being said, I’d encourage you to apply. Without knowing the specifics of your ECs, it’s hard to give you anything more specific, but you seem solid academically.

Thank you guys for replying. It’s comforting to know that.
