In most cases, it seems like grad programs (for medicine) prefer that you take your science prereqs at a 4-year university. I'm a community college student applying for transfer and a lot of the prereqs that are recommended for schools like UCLA/ Cal are the same prereqs for grad (Physio, O-chem, etc). I meet the minimum requirements for the schools that I want to apply to and have completed basic courses like Cell & Molec. Biology and Gen. Chem, which are lower division course sequences.

How much do you think this would affect my chances of admission? I have a decent gpa (3.89). Should I mention it in my transfer application? Maybe in the additional comments section?

Also, I realize that a lot of transfer applicants will have their prereqs for their major completed prior to enrolling at a UC for the fall term. Has anyone been successful in getting in with "average" major preparation? How were your extracurriculars?

Med school is considered ‘professional school’, not ‘grad school’ which is for attaining a PhD or MA/MS.

When you apply to med school, you list all of your coursework and send transcripts, they will know that you transferred.

Hi entomom, I’m a college student and I posted for my sister who’s in high school. Thank you for letting me now about the terms of service. I did not review it.

Sorry, I was being kind of vague when I said it but by grad programs for medicine, I meant for programs like MSN/PA/OT. I just wanted to know if I should say something about saving most of my prereqs to be completed at a UC on the transfer application.

While your question doesn’t quite fit, if you don’t get help elsewhere, you might try asking there as there are some very helpful and knowledgeable members that participate on that forum.
