LAC's (3.0-3.5 range) strong in studio arts

See, all I had to say was “the hippie school” and you knew it was HB, Lol!

My D was nominated for Govenors school in Japanese by her teacher/the school, but she applied and didn’t make it in :frowning: . I think the GPA is what hurt her chances really and although she will probably be nominated again this next year, I suspect the same fate. She has gone to Concordia Language programs the last two summers instead…and now we are looking at Beloit’s for next summer.

U of Richmond?! Had no idea. Good to know…will look into whether she could take a course and transfer it to VCU…hmmm.

Congrats to your S at CMU!!!

[Oglethorpe University](http://www.oglethorpe.edu/)

Oglethorpe (GA) has Art as a major & a minor in Japanese, a school that flies below everybody’s radar, is in Princeton Review’s Best 376.

Temple University now has a Japanese Campus. She could study all for years in Japan and major in art! [Art - Undergraduate Program](http://www.tuj.ac.jp/newsite/main/undergrad/about_tuj/study_fields/art.html)

My son looked at Goucher. He was under-impressed with their art program and instructors. And he found out during the tour that he was only allowed one class / year at a partnering college.

But, he knows someone who is there studying art and doing good work. I think a lot is what you make of it.

It is an absolutely beautiful campus, however.

Slumom, you have such great school suggestions. I think I remember looking at Oglethorpe, but not sure why it didn’t make our list. I will revisit their site!

Drae27, What?! This is a huge find! thank you for telling me Temple has a JAPAN CAMPUS. My D’s original plan (last year) was to go abroad to Japan for a gap year before college, but then she decided she just really feels ready to start doing more advanced art. This kills two birds with one stone…very good find…

Debbie, thanks for Goucher info. This is good to know and I’m think now that it’s probably going to drop from the list…
