I need a few cool LACS that are in funky and exciting cities or surrounding suburbs and have cool campuses. I am taking SATS tomorrow and predict a 1100-1200 and have loads of ECs and leadership positions.

Just toss out anything that comes to you, preferably outside of New England.

I know you say outside of New England, but Skidmore's location really is nice.

However, if you want to be outside of new england, attend a fairly good college, and be in a fun city/town, I HIGHLY recommend Reed College and Lewis & Clark College. Both are about 15 minutes away from downtown Portland, which is a really fun and hip city with tons of music and art festivals. The campuses of these two schools (LClark's in particular) are beautiful.

Rollins College, a beautiful LAC on a lake in Winter Park, a lovely small city that is 10 minutes away from Orlando. Could be a match to slight reach school for you. My son goes there and loves it.

I love Wesleyan to death, and I think Middletown makes a great college town, but it's really not a city in the way I think the OP is looking for. More like a bigger-than-usual town than anything else. It does have bars and resturants and stuff, but not a whol lot of them the way a real city does. We do have an awesome campus. However, it's also totally New England.

The suggestions so far are really good. Also check out Goucher in Towson, MD. Towson is a very active college area with a lot to do, and not very far from Baltimore (though it will help if you have a car to get into B'More).

If you're a girl, Barnard would be a reach but is in a city.

Yeah not looking for stuff in New England, though there are a lot of nice college cities here. Keep the ideas coming, I am looking into many of these!

for more on macalaster...I live in mn...minneapolis, not st,paul, but I go over there a bit and it is in the ideal location. The trendy yet historic shopping distric of grand ave runs adjacent to the campus, plus there is the downtown of minneapolis and of st. paul within 10-15 minutes of the campus...sry i a minnesotan so im partially biased

Yeah I really like Macalester I am visiting this summer. I am biased too, living in Boston I feel like it is going to be hard to find a city that will capture my heart as my home city has haha.

Washington & Lee, Lexington Va
Davidson, Davidson NC
William & Mary, Williamsburg, Va
Wake Forest, Winston-Salem, NC

Great LAC schools that have love em/hatem em towns. Some people find them quaint, charming, nice setting. Others find them way too small. If you are looking for quiet oasis, but close to larger cities all of these would fit. W&L close to Roanoke and Charlottesville. W&M close to Richmond and Norfolk/VA Beach. Davidson close to Charlotte.
