LACs That Held Pre-Med Students

Since I want to major in Biology, I want to go to a liberal arts college that has numerous research opportunities. In addition, I also want a college that has hospitals nearby for me to volunteer at. I would preferably want it close to the West Coat, but anywhere is fine with me.
My stats are:
W: 4.291 UW: 3.8
ACT (Composite): 30
Superscored: 32
Thank you!

Williamette might meet your needs.

One piece of advice that I’ve picked up on this forum for pre-meds is to stay away from CA if you’re premed. That state is loaded with premeds and it lowers your chances, apparently, if you’re applying from there.

With that in mind, maybe check out Whitman. There are hospitals in Walla Walla which is good for getting clinical experience too.

Reed will have lots and lots of research opportunities and it’s in Portland.

And see if you like University of Puget Sound.

@intparent thank you! I’ll look into it

@Dustyfeathers thank you! Would other LACs would you recommend? That aren’t in the West Coast

What is your state of residence? If you live in CA, you’d be instate for CA med schools no matter where you go to undergrad. Some med schools favor instate students and some don’t.

For my DD (when once upon a time it crossed DD’s mind to do premed, seriously enough to get internships at hospitals) I thought of the following schools. Our goals were to find 1) supportive atmosphere (not competitive among the student body, but rather seeking excellence within one’s own performance without regard to others–collaborative in spirit); 2) research opportunities; 3) access to internships/clinical opportunities; 4) support at the administrative level for premed students; 5) and really nice campuses in general. 6) We also don’t like Greek life on campus because it’s distracting on several levels and 7) northeast geographic area.

  • Muhlenberg (has some Greek but it does not dominate) -- also high on our list
  • Juniata
  • Mt. Holyoke -- top choice for us
  • Bryn Mawr -- top choice for us.
  • Haverford
  • Vassar
  • Earlham--has a cadaver course in the neuroscience department. Non-competitive, egalitarian values, 800 acre campus, excellent research -- a top choice for us
  • Connecticut College
  • Wheaton in Mass--but I never checked this as thoroughly as some of the others
  • Bates -- a little far from cities, but such a nice school anyway and we live in a city for summer work)
  • Agnes Scott -- high on our list
  • Hobart and William Smith was sort of on our list, although too cold for her. It has a great scholarship focused on premed candidates
  • Simmons in Boston--has really good health training

There were probably others . . . .

@OHMomof2 I live in CA

@Dustyfeathers thank you so much! I will definitely look into each college, and as of now, I believe that Earlham is somewhere that I want to go, so thank you!
