My D is interested in continuing her dance at college but is not looking to major in Dance. She is more interested in it for her own fun. I have seen a few LAC's which would allow dance as a minor or plenty of opportunities for the non-major. Muhlenberg, Franklin & Marshall and St. Olaf come to mind. Can anyone think of other colleges that may offer that opportunity? Any feedback appreciated.

My DD attends Slippery Rock University and is a dance major but they also have a very good minor in dance program too. It is located in Western PA and is quite a lovely campus. They have excellent professors in many areas besides dance. It is affordable, even with out of state tuition. The new dorms are wonderful, they have a built-in microwave and refrigerator in the room, plus a bathroom. My dd hated the idea of sharing a bathroom and going down the hall to have to shower. I have heard good things about Muhlenberg btw.

I think Creighton has a dance minor - but please check into it to be sure.

Goucher has an excellent dance program and allows non-majors to participate in shows/concerts.

There are LOTS. I always suggest to people who are just beginning their search that they pick up the lastest College edition of Dance Magazine. Also the website Cyber Dance lists almost every college with a dance program. As for recommendations on the east coast, I’ve heard good things about Appalachian and Muhlenberg for musical theater; Barnard, Connecticut College, Elon, Swarthmore, and Vassar for ballet plus excellent academics; Point Park for ballet conservatory; Skidmore, Ithaca, Franklin & Marshall, and Goucher for ballet/modern (and not quite as difficult to get into); and Bennington, Sarah Lawrence, and Bard for post modern. There are many more.Good luck with your search!
