Can anybody list LACs with excellent Physics department?

Old thread, but the rankings probably haven’t changed that month: You can pick out the LACs from the lists.

Have you looked into Chapman’s program? They have a very strong physics team. [Chapman University - Computational Sciences - B.S. in Physics](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Page Not Found | Chapman University)

HMC, Swathmore. I’d also look at Princeton which is an LAC for all intents and purposes but will give you better research opportunities.

Williams is great in math and physics.

Holy Cross-very good physics and strong science program with new biulding. hc has Jan 15th application due date and school is need-blind for admissions.

East:
Williams
Swarthmore

Midwest:
Carleton
Grinnell

West:
Harvey Mudd
Pomona
Reed

South:
Rice (LAC like)

I’m fascinated by the work the physics students are doing here at Rhodes. Magnetic orbits (on NASA’s “vomit comet” no less), new ultrasound techniques, the long-term wear of artificial joints, etc. Every time I see an announcement for a student presentation I’m impressed.

The OP has indicated elsewhere that he is an international, he has a composite ACT score or 30, an UW GPA of 3.6, and his family can afford about $10K/year. He’s apparently applying for Fall 2012 admission. (Right, kdines?)

I don’t think highly selective schools with January 01 deadlines (Williams, Swarthmore, etc.) are going to work for him. Elsewhere, I suggested Union College (Schenectady NY) because:
it is fairly realistic for his stats
it seems to have fairly generous aid for internationals
it has an application deadline that has not passed
it graduates relatively many STEM majors (>30%) compared to many other LACs, and has ABET-accredited engineering

Maybe other posters can suggest other schools with similar characteristics. Rhodes might work.
