This coming year I'll be transferring after finishing up my AA at my local CC, as a Journalism major. I know that most of the top J-schools are either large state schools or selective private schools, but I love the idea of an LAC. The focus on undergrad, the small environments - it's what I'm attracted to. I already know of Ithaca, Emerson and Mount Holyoke (minor), but do you know of other LACs with good Journalism programs? I would prefer the East Coast (but open to other areas as well), and nothing extremely selective as I don't have the stats.

Emerson College sounds like a great choice for you. It’s located in Boston and is known for its writing and Communications program.

Kenyon is also a great LAC for writing/journalism, though it is in rural Ohio.

EDIT: oops, looks like Emerson is already on your list. Take a look at Hampshire, also in Massachusetts.

Kenyon has a superb English department, but no journalism or communications major.
Few selective LACs have these majors. They are not considered “liberal arts”.

I’d add Lehigh (not a LAC), Washington & Lee, U Richmond, and especially Susquehanna to the suggestions above.

Thanks to all of you!
@ tk, I don’t much consider them liberal arts, either, but I’ve seen them categorized as so before.

There is a journalism forum here on CC - [Journalism Major - College Confidential](Journalism Major - College Confidential Forums)

bumpppppp!

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I recommend W&L and UR, great programs and smaller schools.

I’ll look into Lehigh and UR, thanks. Any more suggestions?
