LACs with top studio art programs & D3 lacrosse

I am wondering where the top studio art/architecture programs are among the north eastern LACs. I have already done some research on Bowdoin, Middlebury, Tufts (do they actually have a program?), Connecticut College, and Haverford.

Can anyone tell be a little bit about the Studio Art/ Architecture (and lacrosse) programs at these schools? Which ones are the best?

P.S. I am confused on whether or not Tufts really has a studio art program. I have seen in some places that they do offer a bachelor's in Studio Art and not in architecture, and other places that say the opposite. Also the site mentions "Architectural Studies" as a major; Is that different that architectural design, or is the design aspect included?

Thanks!

don’t know whether they have architecture, but certainly Williams and Skidmore should be on the list.

Anyone interested in the arts and sports should have Middlebury and Williams on the list.

Tufts has a dual-degree option with Boston’s SMFA (school of the museum of fine arts). That means you get a BFA from SMFA and a BA or B.S. from Tufts in 5 years. Here’s the link to the program’s website: [Tufts/SMFA Degree - Office of Undergraduate Admissions - Tufts University](<a href=“Tufts University”>Tufts University)

Tufts also has its own studio art minor, if the dual-degree program doesn’t appeal to you. Also, here’s the link to its architectural studies major. It should tell you what to expect from the program (from what I could tell, it did seem like it includes design as part of it).
My impression is that the architecture program at Middlebury is quite vibrant. A Midd student team was I think the only team from a liberal arts school chosen to construct a model for the Solar Decathalon competition to be held next fall.

Tufts does have architecture but it’s through an interdisciplinary major (or minor if you want). I think they only have a studio art minor. But you could always major in architecture and minor in studio art or something. Here is the information:

msb1273, some liberal arts colleges with good studio art departments are Williams, Hamilton, Skidmore, Conn College, Wesleyan, Kenyon. [Sorry, can’t help you on lacrosse.]

Architecural studies as a major or concentration varies widely from school to school. At most it’s a combination of art studio and art history classes. At a few it’s a separate major; at most it’s a subset of an art and/or art history major. The number of architectural drawing classes offered also varies widely.

If you decide to get a master’s of architecture (which you would need to do in order to practice architecture) whether you major in architectural studies, studio art, or something totally unrelated doesn’t really matter as long as fulfill the requirements and have a strong portfolio.

One good indication is to find out if the college offers counseling on M.Arch admissions and what masters programs its graduates have been admitted to.

Williams, for example, has a great art/art history department, but limited offerings in architectural drawing. Its graduates do quite well in M.Arch admissions. (Good lacrosse, too.)
