Lafayette Class of 2014!

hi everyone I just got accepted ED too! i’m going to be on the track team, is anyone else on it too?

JoeKnowsBest – If you tell us what YOU like to do then we may better be able to tell you whether or not you are likely to find what you are looking for in Easton.

How much money did they ask you to pay to confirm your acceptance? When I intially checked the website it said $500 but my acceptance letter says $700. I’m confused.

Hey guys, how are your admission letters look like? Will the college inform you via email first?

my letter reads
"Congratulations! It is my sincere pleasure to advise you that your application to the Class of 2014 at Lafayette College has been favorably acted upon by our selection committee. Your accomplishments bode well for your ability to make the most of the opportunities available at Lafayette during the next four years. "

I’m really not sure this is an acceptance, as nowhere are $500 deposit and withdrawal of RD choices mentioned in the rest of the letter.

Thank you and merry X’mas

Yup, that’s Lafayette’s acceptance letter. The same one S got 3 years ago: “It is my sincere pleasure to advise you that your application to the Class of 2014 at Lafayette College has been favorably acted upon by our selection committee” = You Got In.

Great! Though it is kind of indirect.

Doesn’t the next paragraph get a bit more personal with comments on your essay or high school?

^^^^^
yep, mine did. btw, when will the finaid details come?

JoeKnowsBest, I’m a current student at Laf and have become very involved in the Easton community. I can tell you firsthand that I’ve never found myself bored. I came to Laf myself from one of the country’s best college areas and shared some of the concerns you, and many others, share about Easton and the Lehigh Valley. When I started exploring, I quickly found plenty of cool places and continue to find new hangouts.

Easton has some of the best restaurants in the Lehigh Valley in addition to plenty of great “hangout” places readily within my budget as a student, an active local arts and music community, plenty of coffee shops, and a group called the Main Street Initiative dedicated to promoting a lively downtown scene. In September of every year, they organize an event known as “Lafayette Day in the Square,” where local businesses offer specials and activities for students are held downtown. I’d definitely recommend checking it out as an introduction to your new hometown. The Crayola Factory is the town’s biggest tourist draw, and most students seem to make a visit at some point during their time at Laf.

There’s a ton to do on campus and on “the Hill,” as well. The Williams Arts Center draws big names in jazz and classical. LAF, the Lafayette Activities Forum, brings comedians and musicians to campus and schedules movies as well. There are tons of “brown bags,” or lunchtime discussions on timely topics featuring free food, hosted by various campus groups. EXCEL positions, in which you’re paid to assist a professor with their research, are among the most sought-after job opportunities on campus. Professors at Laf are truly dedicated to getting to know their students, and I’ve joined professors for coffee before. “The Hill” features a number of good restaurants, a coffee shop popular among students called the Cosmic Cup, a great ice cream place, and a cozy neighborhood feel.

The surrounding area offers plenty of options as well. In the winter months, a shuttle takes students to nearby Blue Mountain for skiing and tubing. In the warmer months, there are all sorts of opportunities for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities. There’s a beautiful new minor league ballpark in Allentown, and a ballgame is a fun and affordable way to spend a spring night with a group of friends. Dorney Park, a major amusement park, is also located in Allentown. If you’re in the area over summer, Bethlehem hosts Musikfest, a huge outdoor music festival with a ton of artists. As some other posters have mentioned, Laf offers a shuttle service to the shopping centers, movies, and supermarket. NYC and Philly are also both about an hour and a half away, and NYC access is particularly convenient via the Transbridge bus from the Easton bus station.

Sorry for the long post, but there’s so much neat stuff happening at Laf and in the surrounding areas! Good luck with your decisions!

Advice from thos who applied ed:
I applied early decision to Lafayette college on 14th dec. All my stuff was submitted that day except css profile and SAT score reports. Collegeboard sent my score reports on 18th and it takes between 2 to 3 weeks to reach the college. College’s site says that results are released in about a month for early decision so will my result come on 14th of Jan or a month after the date when my score reports arrive?

they send you a letter confirming that they received all of your information and then they give you a login and pin to check online.
i sent all of my stuff in december 7th and they received it december 15th

i applied lafayette too! in RD. hopefully be able to be there with u all this fall.

ALIMurtaza, I applied to Lafayette on Nov 1 and I got my letter on December 4. all the parts of my application were submitted on nov 1 except for my counseler reccomendation which was submitted on nov 23rd. Hope this helps!!

Hi! I’ve been accepted ED as well, and am just waiting for my housing forms and such (I’ve sent in my deposit and stuff). I’m looking forward to this fall!

Hi, just a question…
I’m an international accepted ED to Lafayette. i was accepted on late december but i have not yet received the packet that was sent to me. maybe its due to the holidays, and due to the snail mail…i am interested to know what other stuffs the packet contained. can anyone, or better an international, pour some insight? did it contain financial aid information??

plz reply, I want to send my deposit on time :)

I’m in a similar dilemma, pr2014. I think there was delay due to holiday seasons and heavy snow storm depending on your country. When did you receive your admission letter via email? Did they tell you when the mail was sent out?

I got in ED as well, and a few days ago I got a letter saying they got my deposit and other rabble, and I’m so excited!

Does anyone know if we can pick our roommates?

If we can, someone should be a discussion thread in the FB group about getting to know each other a little better.

If there’s a significant delay in follow-up info, especially FA info, I’d email the FA office. The links are on the college’s webpage. They could give you accurate answers to your questions.

Correct me if I am wrong, but can’t you switch your application from RD to ED by 2/15/10? A Lafayette representative visited my high school and said so, but I’m not sure how that works.

^^^ You are correct. See this link for details: [Early Decision Plan](http://www.lafayette.edu/admissions/early_decision.html)
