My son was accepted ED to Lafayette. He is beyond excited. His siblings got him a Lafayette sweatshirt for Christmas. We were out to dinner and we were approached by a Lafayette family who saw the hoodie he was wearing. Their daughter graduated 2020. They raved about the school, but went on for quite a bit about the extensive mold problems in the dorms. They said it is well known and so many kids have developed health problems related to it. I did a bit of social media research and the school seems to have a huge mold problem. Has anyone heard this? A bit concerning as a parent.

First off - congratulations on your S’s acceptance to Laf. My D graduated in 2016 and had an absolutely fabulous experience at the college. From what I could tell, the college seems to have found that “sweet spot” where students are challenged academically and yet can find time to get involved with campus activities, research work, friends etc.

I guess she graduated before the mold problems but it looks like the college is working to remediate the issue:

IMO it would be prudent to check his dorm room/bathroom at move-in for any signs of mold and be sure he knows what to look for moving forward.

I hope your S had a great four years at Lafayette! He should be very excited!

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I might be able to answer.
