Anyone else out there apply RD to Lafayette?
visited with my daughter- she didn’t apply yet but might in a week or 2 depending on ED/EA results. I was very impressed with the school when I visited with her and have heard only good things but people we know who have attended.
My D applied RD. She has an ED app in somewhere else and may need to withdraw but for now, she’s still in.
I am an international student and I applied RD
I applied RD and I love it there so much so I’m really hoping to get in!
DD20 received an email tonight stating that she is a finalist for a scholarship and is invited to come to the campus to participate in an assessment experience on one of 2 days in February and March. Very exciting.
Congratulations! What are your daughter’s stats?
@SSGupt -Thanks. I guess that I’m one of those Parents who never chanced, posted them or took the time to put them together, DD doesn’t even visit this site but in short: SAT: 1460, ACT 31, GPA last posted on Naviance 4.02 unweighted. She is a dancer, proctor and head tour guide at her school. Taking all AP classes this year. Not sure what else to put down but if I missed something feel free to ask me.
My son, too, has been has been invited to the campus to participate in the "Dynamic Assessment Experience as a finalist for the Marquis Awards. Does anyone what this assessment entails?
@OverseasFather, the letter and the FAQs explains the process. Will you be attending? I understand that if we do not attend, we are still eligible for all but the full tuition scholarship.
@Sarrip, if by letter you mean a physical letter, my son hasn’t received one yet. I believe it’s on it’s way via Fed-Ex. By eligible, do you mean guaranteed? Because if you don’t attend, then how are you evaluated? Because, even besides the Marquis Fellowship (full tuition waiver), there are still two categories of scholarships to decide on.
@OverseasFather - I believe my daughter was emailed. She is in prep school but she emailed me a copy of what was sent to her. No, nothing is guaranteed. In other words, they will probably offer some of the scholarships to people who were not invited to this event but who are competitive. If you do not attend you are not eligible for the full tuition scholarship but may get one of the other scholarships. I copied the info for you:
Marquis Fellowship –Lafayette’s most selective merit-based scholarship is a full-tuition award (current value of $56,556), renewable for up to four years of full-time study at the College. The Marquis Fellowship includes a $4,000 stipend for a faculty-led interim experience, or for the advancement of other scholarly pursuits. The Marquis Awards Committee expects to award approximately 30 Marquis Fellowships this year.
Both events consist of an introduction exercise, small group discussions, a short group presentation, an individual interview, and a short reflective writing assignment.
Marquis Scholarship –Lafayette’s primary merit-based scholarship is a half-tuition award (current value of $28,278), renewable for up to four years of full-time study at the College. The Marquis Scholarship includes a $4,000 stipend for a faculty-led interim experience, or for the advancement of other scholarly pursuits. The Marquis Awards Committee expects to award approximately 100 Marquis Scholarships this year.
Marquis Award –Lafayette’s more versatile merit-based scholarship may be awarded as a stand-alone scholarship, or blended into a larger need-based financial aid package. The Marquis Award is presented as either a quarter-tuition scholarship (current value of $14,139), or an eighth-tuition scholarship (current value of $7,070), and is renewable for up to four years of full-time study at the College. The Marquis Awards Committee expects to award approximately 50 quarter- and eighth-tuition Marquis Awards this year.
@Sarrip Thanks. This email my son received too. It’s the “enclosed” FAQs mentioned in the email, that he has not yet received. Hopefully the Fed-Ex package will arrive soon.
“To help you understand the next steps in the Marquis Awards selection process, please carefully review the enclosed FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS document that includes information about the parent program and travel assistance, as well as other important information. If you need further clarification, please contact one of the committee members listed on that document.”
PS: Sorry, I missed answering your question earlier. My son does wish to attend the event and if everything pans out, he will attend.
@OverseasFather - Tell him to scroll down to the very bottom of the email. That’s where the faqs are on my daughter’s email. We also will be attending.
@Sarrip @OverseasFather congratulations on the invitation to interview for such a prestigious award. My DC really liked Lafayette and was hoping to be selected.
Is it your understanding that the only way to get the Marquis fellowship is through the dynamic assessment process? i.e. if you don’t get invited to interview you are out of the running for the full tuition scholarship?
@Sarrip - This is the entire email. But there’s no “enclosed FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS document” as stated in the email.

@OverseasFather thanks for sharing that letter. It seems that the kids who are being considered for one of the Marquis scholarships are invited to attend the dynamic assessment review.
@holychild - It states in the Faqs that the fellowship is only available to those attending the Dynamic Assessment Experience, however the others awards are open to all applicants including those who participate. In other words everyone who participates will not end up with a fellowship award but may be awarded one of the other awards.
@OverseasFather - On my daughter’s email there was a link to click on underneath the Deans signature at the end of the page but perhaps my daughter copied and pasted it there for me.
@Sarrip thanks for that explanation. I am glad to find this out now so I can temper my expectations now rather than be disappointed in March.
It must mean that your children have been admitted. They wouldn’t ask them to interview otherwise.
@Sarrip - Would it be possible for you to provide the link to the FAQs?
