Lafayette College RD 2024

They have held back decisions for all international applicants. Clearly, they are revising their decisions for all international students. Does not look very promising.

There are some guys on Reddit who got their decision internationals

No letter today in CT so we were ready for waitlist or rejection. He got in and we all burst into tears of joy.

@holychild I am pretty sure ours was delayed from yesterday - maybe your mail people are just behind? The money folder is in the acceptance packet.

@Charlie2772 My DD got a LOT of need based FA for Lafayette. It is hard to know what schools are looking for, especially among this level of school. I hope he gets in off the waitlist!

For those who got in and got either the Marquis fellowship or scholarship and the decision is on the portal, is the scholarship award listed on a separate page?

If true, then maybe they held back decisions for those - international applicants - who applied for financial aid.

I am a believer now. @Sarrip says itā€™s not over until the portal says so. Donā€™t give up hope.

Iā€™m international and didnā€™t apply for financial aid so I think it may just be international applicants/

Whatā€™s even more weird, is that I saw a button labelled ā€˜Admission decision acceptanceā€™ or something to that effect. And when I clicked on it, a small window opened up, in which it asked to select yes or no for whether my son accepts their offer and if he plans to attend Lafayette. I just closed the window without responding to the question. But then strangely the button disappeared and I can no longer find it.

Same

I saw that too but I didnā€™t click on it and it went away. Not to get hopes up but Iā€™m assuming that means your son got in if it asked him if he accepts.

@turtlesforever Oh, I think they do give FA just not if you are only at the 75th percentile. He got tons of money from places ranked just one or two spots below Lafayette bc those schools he was more at the 90th percentile. I, in no way, think its all about aid, I just think you have to be pretty fantastically fabulous if you need them to discount their price by 60-75% not just great.

And in terms of him only being ā€œgreatā€ I generally refer to his UW GPA at 3.75. His SAT is 1460.

Actually, we had been told, in not so many words, that my son would be offered admission. I have no clue what happened in the 17 days since we were at Lafayette. One can only conjecture that it all is related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that they are revising the international decisions.

Did you click on the button?

Thanks for confirming. For a moment there, I was thinking if I was hallucinating and had imagined it.

Waitlisted. SAT 1530, UW GPA 4.12. Very disappointed as this was number 1 choice. Oh well.

Hey guys, DD was accepted and Iā€™m happy for her but I have to say that I am still very annoyed. First, they sent her package to her boarding school so who knows when I will ever retrieve it since it is 5 hours away. Second, they didnā€™t even put a copy of the acceptance letter on the portal but a few sentences and no financial information. Third, if everyoneā€™s decisions were not going to be available they could have at least given them the heads up instead of having them excitedly wait for the portal. Iā€™m not sure how they think that this was appropriate or professional. I just called them and asked them how I am supposed to find out the financial information since I will not get a package. I informed that that I called last week and told them that it was sent to the incorrect address. I was told that they could not give me the information over the phone but would see if they could send me another packet. I had to email someone else to explain my situation. I really donā€™t want to wait for another packet so hopefully they can email it. For those who have not heard yet,Iā€™m so sorry and Iā€™m still hoping for you. A delay is not a rejection. For those who donā€™t have a package, I feel your painā€¦Youā€™ll probably get one tomorrow, me on the other handā€¦I have no idea. You guys forgive me because Iā€™m not usually this temperamental.

@holychild - So happy for you!

Daughter was waitlisted. We knew it was a long shot at she is a higher stat kid who didnā€™t show any interest until after applications were already in, and Lafayette is a school that lists interview as ā€˜importantā€™ and interest as ā€˜consideredā€™ on their common data set. Beautiful schoolā€¦definitely wouldā€™ve been happy for her to go there.

For next yearā€™s kids reading these threadsā€¦1540SAT / 34 ACT / 4.0 UWGPA, 5.6 WGPA
Accepted: Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Colgate, Dickinson, Fordham, Hamilton, UDel and URichmond
Denied: Johns Hopkins
Waitlisted: Lafayette, Williams

@THeMoMo You know, this could explain, maybe not this waitlist for my son, but for some of the more astounding ones. Perhaps yield protection combined with high stats. Or maybe its the distance. We only visited the one time and word has it they are taking how far away you live from campus into consideration now when accepting students. We are 5 hours away. IDK its all a mystery.
