Hi all,
My DD will likely be applying ED to Lafayette. I was wondering if anyone who got in ED would share their stats, if any merit money was awarded and what sort of stats were associated with the merit awards.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all,

My son had a 3.85 weighted GPA. 5 AP classes, lots of leadership and sports. 33 superstore on ACT. Got in ED but did not receive any merit money.
Here is a quote from and a link to Lafayette’s own website’s info about the Marquis scholarship :
“Students who decide that Lafayette is their first choice and apply under the Early Decision option are also carefully considered for all merit-based scholarship opportunities. However, if your enrollment here is critically dependent on being awarded a merit-based scholarship, you should apply under the Regular Decision option.”

It will be interesting to see what posters share about their actual experiences with merit aid ED.
DD applied ED with 4.6W, 4.0 unweighted and 35 act to another school that offers merit and got nothing. DS applied broadly with slightly lower stats (4.4W 3.95U and 33 act) and got merit at almost all schools that offered. I think for merit it is better to avoid ED.
My S who applied RD in 2016 received marquis scholarship. He had 4.5 W / 3.8 UW, 10 APs with one 5 but mostly 4s, two subject tests of 720 and 700, and pretty standard ECs: varsity soccer and band. Some volunteer coaching. And work as summer camp counselor. 32 ACT (33 ss). He,s a great kid and smart but hardly a standout by cc standards. I think we were all a bit pleasantly surprised by the award. And truly it helped seal the deal for him(as I’m sure the college intended). It may also have helped that we are not from a state that has tons of students at Lafayette. He is now a very happy rising junior at laf.
Thanks all and especially momofzag. My DD has to do ED since she is an athlete and we live only an hour away from campus.GPA and rigor of high school classes is similar but test scores aren’t up there. Some of those factors are working against us.
My D applied ED last year as a recruited athlete 3.49 GPA unweighted, 1330 SAT 5 AP classes, a two sport varsity athlete all 4 years of high school , Student council 3 years ( I year officer), a couple regional Science awards, several years with a youth service group that included major projects. She is also from under represented state.
She decided on Lafayette because she loved the school and appreciated the coach. She was actively recruited by four other schools but after official visits at them she felt Lafayette was the right choice for her.
We were nervous about the cost. The coach provided us with a “soft estimate” on the Athletic award she would get if she agreed to ED. The estimate was ultimately a little higher than what she actually received (40k+) but wasn’t much lower.
Overall, it was close to what she was offered from other schools she was accepted at . Not that it would have mattered because we were already committed to Lafayette.
She loves the school and her team so we are happy with our decision. As a parent, the only thing I regret is that she had to withdraw her application to Swathmore and Vanderbilt because of her ED commitment to Lafayette. I just wanted to see if she could have been accepted.
Curious did bear 6613 DD get accepted?
We should find out very soon.
Thanks AKhopefull. Can I PM you?
