NYU early decision reject as of today. A too-low GPA and 2 typos on my common app apparently lead to total rejection from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Anyway, here's my situation. I'm completely devastated about not getting into NYU. I'm looking at the list I complied with my college counselor and realize I dont really want to go to anything as nearly as badly as I had wanted to go to NYU. My plan was to apply early decision II to Lafayette if I was rejected from NYU. However...I really want to try my luck at McGill. I was really into small, preppy schools last year when I looked at colleges...but this is not the case anymore. I feel like McGill would definitely be one of the next best places for me.

the problem: whether I should get into Lafayette ED which I apparently have a decent chance of, or let it open up to regular decision and try my hardest for McGill? If i do get into Lafayette (unless it goes above and beyond my expectations) i will do everything in my power to transfer to NYU.

i would apply to both as an english major

so please offer any insight/advice you can, much appreciated.

i think my essay was very good, it was about a turning point in my depression. it talks about a signigicant experience with my dad and how it helped me change. there was a typo in it that has been fixed, but im guessing that didnt help my chances with nyu

both the teachers who wrote me recommendations loved me. i even tried to push the boundaries and got one from my math teacher, and i hate math. but i have a great relationship with my math teacher, he knows i push myself and all and he even offered to write me a good one. the other one is from my AP US history teacher, i got an A in her class and she liked me too. in addition, i did all of the extra credit going above and beyond, eg. i wrote a 6 page book review that she loved.
