Lafayette or Gburg

Wow, Lafayette just called me and told me they have an open spot. I was on the waitlist. I just visited Gettysburg over the weekend and liked it, and visited Lafayette in the fall. I'm going to try to skip school and visit during the week to refresh my memory. I'm interested in history, and Lafayette has the major with history, government and law in one. Gettysburg, however, is giving me $8,500 a year. Also, I'm calling Bucknell tomorrow to figure out my chances of getting off the wait list.

Any suggestions, comments, insights? Is Lafayette's reputation better? Are there better opportunities?

Lafayette is an awesome school.
I'd pick it over Gburg.

Yeah, Easton.

Both are excellent, but I would pick Lafayette, also.

Bucknell > Lafayette > Gettysburg

Agree. In general, I'd pick Lafayette over Gettysburg. Lafayette has done a great job in recent years of providing undergraduate research opportunities, and has these multidisciplinary think tanks which work on solving real world problems, such as for the city of Easton. However, I can't speak to the strength of the specific departments. The law and govt. department used to be great at Lafayette, then went downhill a bit, and now (from what a professor friend told me) seems to be on its way back up again. My son also liked that major.

Difference in tuition would be about 6k a year. I like the schools almost equally, there's advantages to both, but I'm leaning towards Lafayette. Is the 6k/year difference worth it?

Lafayette. definitely.

The tuition difference is worth it if you want it to be. You can succeed graduating from anywhere, but your options and the possibilities are normally higher coming from a better school. If you work hard at laff, new doors WILL open.

Have you appealed? Lafayette might match Gettysburg for the first year.

Well it's all merit aid... I didn't apply for finaid since I probably won't qualify for anything but loans.

Are you a Marquis Scholar or Trustee Scholar? if you're a Marquis Scholar, don't forget to count in the value of the free interim term they give you.

Is it considered to be Lower Easton when you walk down that hill/path from the campus?

Merit aid is to Gburg, nothing to Lafayette, but since Gburg has higher tuition it comes down to only a few thousand in difference.

Decided on Lafayette

itsCrunchtime: Maybe we missed something on our visit but what else is up on the hill besides the college? We saw a pizza place and maybe an attorney's office?
