Grants are usually for four years and are not always grade dependent the way merit awards can be. Just to be sure, call your admissions officer. See #33.

Hi Taylor: Thank you so much for providing such thorough ideas for activities in Lafayette and the college town! The life here sounds exciting and colorful and I’m impressed. Sorry for the late reply. I’ve decided to apply for Lafayette as RD~ Hope I will be admitted~

This isn’t my top concern, but I am curious about the party scene in lafayette. I know it used to be really huge, and I don’t want anything too huge, but I would really like to be able to go out with my friends on the weekends to parties. I’m looking to join club sports like ultimate frisbee, and I suppose that would help. But I’m just curious how prevalent parties are on campus, because I’d definitely like to do that sometimes. Any insight from a student would be really helpful, thank you.

dr11574,

I am not entirely familiar with the financial aid policies in place for accepted students. To have those questions answered, please contact our Office of Financial Aid at (610) 330-5055 or financialaid@lafayette.edu

ursawarrior,

Lafayette does NOT have rolling admission. Rather, it has the following:

Early Decision I: This is the best option if you know that Lafayette is your top choice college. By applying early decision, you are agreeing to attend Lafayette if accepted. Your chance of acceptance significantly increases under this option. The ED applications were due Nov 15.

Early Decision II: This is the same as Early Decision I, except it is for students who decide on early decision later on in the application process. You may send in a regular decision application (due Jan 15), and convert it to early decision II anytime before Feb 1st.

Regular Decision: This is the standard application option (no binding agreement) due Jan. 15.

questions1234,

Parties on campus are run by a variety of student groups. Fraternities, sororities, and athletic groups in particular tend to sponsor many of them. For students who want to go to parties, there are usually options on the weekends. I am personally not a big party goer, but there are plenty of outlets for those who are.

December 15 is Sunday, so I wonder when ED applicants will receive their admission decision. Either on Monday or Friday. While I expect email from the Office of Admissions ASAP, Friday the 13rd doesn’t seem to be a good day for important decisions…

ursawarrior,

The website indicates that you will receive your decision BY December 15th, so it might be the Friday the 13th, or perhaps earlier. If you are superstitious, and this makes you feel any better, keep this in mind–if you receive your decision on Friday the 13th, that means the decision was made BEFORE Friday the 13th.

If I remember correctly, I believe I received my acceptance letter on December 17 (2010).

Taylor

And you probably already know, but (at least when my D applied two years ago) the decisions are sent out via snail mail. She also got her letter around 12/17. It was later than most of her friends who applied ED to other schools, but it was well worth the wait.

Thank you for your response, captainclueless and happy1. So admission decisions will
not be sent via email then? That’s weird. My SAT teacher got an email notification when he applied to Williams. Why doesn’t the school simply send an email before the mail arrives?

Every school does acceptances differently. And as far as I know, Lafayette still uses snail mail (Taylor, please correct me if this information is outdated!) But hang in there – the warm and personalized acceptance letter makes it worth the wait.

captainclueless, Is there anyway you can get a definite on when the ed decision letters will be sent out. Would be greatly appreciated!!

If Lafayette notifies decision via mail, the decision should have been made around this time already. If you’re an ED applicant, be sure to send any supplemental profile today
Btw are you American or international, captainclueless and happy1? You both received notification on Dec 17, but the time American and international students do may differ.

I am from New Jersey.

Taylor

If I remember right, international students are notified via email.

Hey taylor,
Can u please tell me if halal food is available on campus? And what about a prayer space for muslims? Thanks

Hi sunny72,

You will be happy to know that Lafayette has a very active Muslim Students Association (MSA). They also maintain a prayer space. See the descriptions from our website below.

“The Muslim Student Organization (MSA) strives to provide a friendly and cooperative environment where Lafayette Muslim Students from different countries of the world will be able to interact with other student bodies on campus and other Muslims in the community. The group also aims to educate the Lafayette community regarding issues pertaining to Islam. Over the course of the year, MSA organizes informative lunchtime talks, trips to the Allentown mosque during the holy month of Ramadan, as well as an annual event to celebrate Eid/Diwali in conjunction with the Asian Students Association.”

“Lafayette is home to a vibrant Muslim Students Association. Weekly prayers are held Fridays at the Easton Mosque. Transportation can be arranged for students who wish to attend. A Muslim Prayer Room is maintained on the lower level of Hogg Hall.”

Lastly, there are always halal options in Lafayette’s dining halls. Most meals are already halal, but if they are not, all you have to do is ask.

Taylor

Thanks a lot Taylor. That was really helpful! :-)

I have a small question. Does the need-based award cover the whole cost, or just the tuition fee? This year’s tuition fee is $43,000 and total is $57,000. If my family can contribute $25,000, will I receive additional $18,000 or $32,000? Thanks!

NgAnhHoang,

Lafayette may or may not cover the remaining cost. We meet your full demonstrated need as demonstrated by the FAFSA and CSS profile. I am not sure if this includes tuition only or if it also includes room and board.
