Lafayette Questions: Part II

I have a quick question. Is admission notification often sent via email or postal mail?

Thanks in advance.

Gallop,

Domestic applicants receive notification of decisions via postal mail.

Hello Justin. I have an important question. Are international students eligible for merit scholarships of any kind? Because I just read that the Marquis scholarships are only for US citizens or permanent residents.

cristina89,

From the Financial Aid website:

<<< The College meets the full demonstrated financial need of international students through a combination of loan, job, and grant aid. The awarding of College aid to international students, however, is extremely competitive, and the need for such aid may affect the admission decision. >>>

No, int'l applicants are not offered merit-based scholarships, but grant money is handed out quite liberally.

Thanks Justin.

Since I'm international, would the case be the same? Or will I receive an email instead? I submitted my ED application materials on Nov 1st, and until now I've heard nothing back.

Gallop,

From the Int'l Admissions webpage (Lafayette College Admissions):

When will international students be notified of their admissions decisions?

International decisions are generally finalized in late February, so students may receive their decision letters by April 1. Students who are accepted will also receive notice of their acceptance via email.

For ED students:

Decisions on ED applications normally are made within one month of receipt of your completed application forms, including the ISFAA if you are seeking financial aid.

hello
this is an international student
yet i haven't got my ED decision
will my decision sent via email?
i m waiting for the decision.what shall i do?

BNKS8,

All ED decisions are not sent out at the same time. Applications are read as they are received. If the one month notification deadline has not passed, just be patient.

Yes, int'l candidates receive notice via email.

Hey Justin, I just sent in my application for RD. Do you think it is possible for me to get a decision earlier than April 1?

bostonman2009,

Most decisions are received a week or two before the April 1 deadline, so it is certainly possible. If you are awarded one of our merit-based scholarships, you'll hear back even earlier, typically around mid-March.

Hey Candyman! I am an international candidate and I just turned the whole Lafayette Application. I was about 45 minutes late. Would that affect anything hugely?

Candyman, I never knew intls cud apply ED to LAfayette. I have already turned my app in as a regular . Is it possible to still apply as Ed. And are there any Ghanaians in Lafayette.

adrivit,

Your application will still be reviewed. 45 minutes won't make any difference.

db99,

You might be able to contact Admissions and let them know you'd like to switch your RD app to an ED app. Consider emailing Eugene Gabay at gabaye@lafayette.edu; he is the admissions representative in charge of int'l admissions.

If you can convert your application, they'd need you to fill out an 'Early Decision Plan Agreement.'

There are currently two Ghanaians at Lafayette. If you'd like me to provide their email addresses via a PM, please let me know.

BNKS8,

It can take up to 30 days to hear back once your application is complete. With regard to your sending of SAT scores, do you mean Nov. 22 when you say Dec. 22? If so, technically, you might have to wait until Dec. 22 for your decision.

No, your friend would not be able to inform you of your admissions decision. Did you email internatl@lafayette.edu with your inquiry? You might wish to email Eugene Gabay at gabaye@lafayette.edu; he is the admissions representative in charge of int'l admissions.

i mailed to all of them
but no reply
but they gave reply to my friend
and he told me that the review of the ED applicants is over
and they are preparing the decision letters,
now when shall i expect my decision?

BNKS8,

I can only tell you what the website says. Only an Admissions representative can provide more detailed information.
