I just received an email from Lafayette today asking me to fill up an optional survey to “get to know” me. So, I wanted to ask your opinion, will this survey amount to anything while making their admissions decision?
I got this too and was curious about it because I know some schools like UC-Berkeley send supplemental questionnaires out to “bubble” candidates – people who aren’t definitively yes or no candidates. I wondered if this was something along those lines. In any case, I’m definitely going to fill it out!
I agree with @lulu2015 I’d definitely fill it out!
I filled it out right when I got it. @lulu2015 it would be nice if I wasn’t a definitely no! I feel like if I am on the bubble my 0 EFC is going to hurt though.
Did any regular decision applicants NOT get the survey?
My S got it too. Maybe it went to everyone who applied.
Do any of you have strong arts backgrounds? I do and hadn’t yet applied for the creative & performing arts fellowship. (I just got through midterms and was planning to do it this weekend). I thought it was a little odd that there was a link for that at the bottom of the survey and also wondered if they might be trying to use the survey as a nudge on that front. I’m probably reading too much into this. LOL!
anyone of you applied RD but didn’t receive the instruction to set up your portal account? I emailed the admission officer and he said I should receive it soon, but I don’t know when I submitted my app 2 weeks ago.
I’m RD an probably submitted a week or two before the deadline. I received it but I definitely wouldn’t stress about it because decisions won’t be released for month. It was a pretty short survey and you’ll have plenty of time.
@Jmbakh - I’m not stressed about the survey at all, just reading tea leaves and trying to figure out if it meant anything. Even though I applied RD, I submitted my application months ago, so I’m ready to take any hint at this point.
@lulu2015 I was addressing @MollyN about the fact that she didn’t receive the survey yet. It looks like everyone is getting them though. I certainly don’t have artistic ECs at all. I love art and music but it’s not my talent where I’d be able to submit a supplement. Or if I did submit a supplement it would hurt me much more than it would help. Good luck with that fellowship though!
@Jmbakh - Thanks! I think was worried that she doesn’t have access to the Lafayette Portal, not the survey.
@MollyN - I think they are probably processing all the applications that came in right at the deadline. I’m sure you’ll get the link soon enough, but if not, call Admissions - they’ve been super helpful in every interaction I’ve had with them.
Oh yeah my bad. But yeah I bet Lafayette admissions could confirm that everything is received on the phone. Once you know that the portal is only needed for viewing decisions.
@Jmbakh Hmm? By portal, you mean the Banner Self-service? Decisions will not be posted on Banner. You can only receive it by mail or email (if you are international).
My bad I just assumed it showed decisions. I’ve used very similar services for a few other colleges and decisions were posted.
Lafayette is weird in that aspect … You get a personalized (not computer - generated) letter if you are accepted though.
