Lafayette Transfer Decisions

Hi everyone,
I recently applied as a transfer student to Lafayette College (the deadline is May 1st). I am wondering if anyone knows when (or around the time) they will be releasing their decisions, and if they release financial aid awards at the same time.

Thanks!

Hey there! I also applied as a transfer student for this fall! Lafayette’s common data set says “Rolling Admission” under Notification Date for transfer students. I’ve heard rolling admission notifications typically range from 2 weeks to 2 months but I’m not sure about Lafayette specifically. As for the financial aid reward, the common data set says students have to respond to the school within 3 weeks of decision so I think you’d get your financial aid award with the decision or very soon after. Good luck! I hope we both get in!

Did either/both of you transfer to Lafayette? If so, how are you enjoying it and from what school did you transfer? DS is considering transfer from GW.

@nancymom Just so you know neither of the above posters has been on CC for quite some time.

@nancymom I was accepted to Lafayette as a transfer student. I would be willing to give you and your daughter insight in case you want to know about the overall transfer process! Just PM me!

Hi! That’s awesome you were accepted into Lafayette as a transfer student. Congrats!! I really wish to transfer to Lafayette in the Spring semester of 2019. I love their campus & the atmosphere it is surrounded by & the close interconnected community they have built. I wanted to ask you if it was hard for you to get in? I am scheduling a transfer student interview & am doing as much as possible to increase my chances. I have a very good high school GPA & plan on busting my butt in the first semester at college before transferring to Lafayette. Would you be able to tell me about your experience in transferring to Lafayette? It would be so helpful!! Did you do anything in particular to increase your chances in getting accepted as a transfer student? I keep hearing different things about the difficulty in getting accepted as a transfer student.

@kendallC321 Hey, I’m trying to set an on-campus interview but all they are offering these upcoming months are campus visits and Saturday events. How were you able to set up yours?

@kendallC321 Sorry for the late response! I am not nearly as active on here as I used to be when I was undergoing the transfer process. Lafayette is a wonderful school! Thus why I chose to apply to it as a transfer student. I am not entirely sure about the competition in terms of transferring to Lafayette. Their website does not give much insight into what the exact numbers look like.

@kendallC321 1. Begin gathering materials EARLY EARLY EARLY
My biggest advice here is to begin planning your transfer application process ahead of time. Don’t wait until the last minute to get recs from professors (another point I will come to) and send transcripts!

  1. Establish strong relationships with professors first semester This is by far the most important step in my opinion. First semester I made sure to create strong relationships with my professors by going to class every day, asking questions regularly, and going to their office hours for extra help. This really helped get across that I work hard and that pays off! I feel that my application would not have been as strong without recs from the professors I had first semester.
  2. Create a strong academic record! This is also very important. First semester is really significant for rising soph transfers since it is really the only set of grades from college that the admissions officers have to look at. I would aim for a 3.6+ here!
  3. Join lots of clubs that interest you! Make sure to appear well balanced to the admissions committee by joining clubs that interest you. I was involved in four different clubs that tied well in with my major and just my general interests. I even used one to talk about in one of my essays.
  4. Strong Essay This is crucial to getting your application noticed. Make sure not to talk poorly about your old university. I think it is more mature and attractive to the admissions officers when you can highlight the positives in your old school and direct that into where your needs aren't being met and how your new school (Lafayette in this case) will fulfill them.

I didn’t end up choosing to attend Lafayette, but I have heard nothing but great things about the school. If you have any more questions about the transfer admissions process then feel free PM me! Good luck!
