Any opinions? We will be visiting Richmond in April on an accepted student Monday. Visited Laf for a Scholars day, which was impressive, but not a regular visit. Slightly more merit from Laf but not enough to sway decision. S isn’t sure of major, maybe bio, maybe Econ, who knows. Thanks!!
My daughter was accepted at both schools too. She received no merit from Richmond and is a Marquis Scholar at Lafayette. We visited both schools twice including speaking with professors and students. I think both schools are academically outstanding. Where they differ is in the campus vibe. Richmond is a little more conservative, less artsy or interdisciplinary. My daughter was drawn more to Lafayette where she really clicked with people. However, she has several other choices including William and Mary. Costs will play a role in her decision too. Good luck. You really have two great schools to consider.
These happen to be the same two schools I’m debating between right now. I leaning slightly towards Richmond due to the fact that it’s a little larger and also has a business program. Since I am currently undecided about major, I kind of want to keep that opportunity open. But still have to visit both again!
I am also torn between Lafayette and U Richmond. Lafayette was one of the first schools I looked at and I absolutely loved it. Richmond was later on in my college search but I also loved it. I’m leaning towards Richmond because of the very high level business program they offer, but Lafayette was my favorite school throughout my entire search until I visited U Richmond so now I’m not sure. Cost is about the same too, so that won’t help my decision at all. I’m going to both accepted students days to see where I fit in best, but as of now I’m pretty much set on Richmond.
Richmond has a very strong business school: it offers various management tracks like consulting, entrepreneurship, human resources. Moreover it has the standard marketing, finance, economics, accounting, and international business options. The career services department is top notch and opportunities for professional development are plenty. It has a strong internship placement record and one of the finest study abroad programs with partner institutions all over the world including LSE and Oxford.
Congratulations! Both great schools and both are schools our daughter was accepted at a few years ago.
She would have gone to Lafayette if she went to one of these schools. She was selected as a Marquis Fellow. She also received a merit scholarship at Richmond but not for nearly as much.
These are both great schools with beautiful campuses. Richmond was considerably farther away from home for her and that was a consideration as well. Two things I distinctly remember about Richmond are that it was the cleanest school that we visited, and the dining hall was amazing.
Best Wishes! These are both excellent schools.
Yes, both really good schools with high academics, nice campus, and friendly atmosphere. In the end, it was Richmond’s summer guarantee, the Dining Hall (with unlimited meal plan and large dining dollars to use), prettiest campus, nice upperclassmen dorm rooms and other aesthetics which make daily life easier. From our view point, D choose well. Her first semester classes had 16, 9, 6, and 5 students, respectively in her 4 classes. Enjoy accepted students day and ask lots of questions.
The University of Richmond also is connected to the Richmond MSA which has a population of 1.3MM. There are many opportunities for students outside of the classroom and for internships. I’m a local and U of R is amazing. I was hoping one of mine would want to attend, but they wanted to go to school more than 10-15 minutes from our house
Choose Richmond over Lafayette! Simply so much more to offer. I know several people who attend there now and I have yet to hear a bad thing. If only I got in…
If your S wants business then URichmond for sure. Other than that if money is not an issue, I’d say it is a matter of personal preference. For full disclosure my D went to Lafayette and had an absolutely fantastic experience. If you have any questions about the school that a parent can answer feel free to PM me.
