What’s living at lag like as a freshman? I was originally pretty disappointed to not get housing at a freshman dorm but after talking to some upperclassmen, I’ve heard mostly good things about lag, specifically Eucalipto (where I’ll be staying). Do any of you have any information/experiences that you could share with me about this housing?
I’ll be in a triple by the way. I’ve heard they’re quite spacious–is that true?
Are you sure it is a triple? I thought Lag has a lot of (big) singles and some doubles.
My guess is the dynamics for freshmen on the west side of campus will be different this year with the two new dorms. There will be a lot more freshmen on the west side than in previous years.
@fredthered Yes they said it was a triple in my housing email
Eucalipto and Granada frosh are all in triples, with a few rare exceptions of singles. They are quite spacious, as each used two be two double rooms that were converted into a triple by removing the middle wall. You will be one of the few frosh to have sinks in your room, so no need to walk down the hall for brushing your teeth!
Traditionally, west campus in general tended to be quieter, with Lag residents usually heading over to Wilbur/Stern or the row for weekend nights. But yes, the two new 4-class dorms might change the dynamics a bit. It can change a lot from year to year, just depending on who ends up getting placed in Lag and nearby Roble, and the environment can be a pro or a con depending on what you’re looking for in college life. Some like it’s easier to have to go elsewhere to party rather than elsewhere to sleep (if it’s too loud), while some may wish they lived in one of the larger Wilbur/Stern complexes where most frosh reside.
The biggest pro of living in Lag is having non-staff upperclassmen living in the same hallways as you. It varies from year to year how many of the upperclassmen will interact how much with frosh, but there are always at least a few gems per 4-class dorm. I encourage you to seek these out (after getting to know your fellow frosh and dorm staff), as they can be invaluable sources of advice, experience, and car rides/free food
The above poster pretty much covered everything. I would second everything they said.
The triples are quite spacious in Lag and having a sink in the room is a nice bonus as well that many of the all-frosh dorms don’t have. West Campus is a bit quieter than the all-frosh dorms so you may be trekking to the other end of campus for parties on weekends. A nice perk of Lag is that you’ll be close to the new gym and recently renovated Roble center as well.
Take advantage of advice from upperclassmen as well.
