LAH Acceptances

My son was accepted OOS earlier this week (thanks to those who congratulated him on another UT thread) to Liberal Arts, Arabic major. His plan is to double in Arabic and Economics. He applied to LAH also, but of course, has not yet heard anything. I have picked up some info from other threads, but would like more info if it is available. His app was not finished until near the deadline. My understanding is that he will hear via postal mail only. Can any tell us when the LAH acceptance letters for late appliers will likely be sent? He (and I) are sort of pacing the floor hoping to hear because UT is his top school (he has been accepted to Honors at Ohio State with a scholarship, however, so that changes the equation). LAH is silent about the post-application process, which is not uncommon, but is frustrating. More and more schools are much more open about what to expect and when.
Information, anybody? Advice? Thanks for listening!

You should hear back sometime in march, probably around the 15th. Good luck!

omg i want to know to…some of my friends (in staters ) have heard back from lah. one of them who applied after dec 1st!!!

He is VERY happy, because UT was/is his top choice. BUT…he has been accepted at Ohio State to the Honors College with a scholarship and is competing there for full tuition or full ride. It is a comparable choice academically to UT, but he LOVED Austin when we visited. Of course, economically it’s a much harder choice because OSU is in-state tuition and only 3 hours away by car. He is also waiting to hear from six other schools, which will all be mid-March/April 1. I’m trying not to make myself nuts with this – limited success. Can you tell he’s my first-born?..

I applied to LAH as well but I haven’t heard anything yet. I think mkose1’s statement is accurate, most hear back in March around Spring Break time.

Well, I applied pretty late (Dec 1) and just got my letter last week. But I’m top 10, in state so that might have made a difference. I’m not sure but good luck!

I applied in October and heard in December, but again, I’m in state and in the top 5%. They will definitely be sending out letters–probably the majority–in March. Good luck!

Just got my acceptance today. I’d say keep on the lookout these next two months.

Penguin - Are you OOS or In-state? I think In-state applicants hear earlier than OOS. And only a handful of OOS applicants get accepted into LAH (I believe there are fewer than 20 OOS in the entire program, so likely only 4-5 get admitted annually – assuming some get accepted and go elsewhere).

In the 30 minutes since my last post, the mail arrived, and with it, my son’s LAH acceptance letter. He is THRILLED; Mom and Dad very proud.

ahhh i still havnt gotten mine!
but conrats for your son

Applepie, looks like you are in-state. He is OOS, so it’s a totally different pool. My understanding is that OOS and in-state students are not compared to one another, but only “compete” for admission within their category: instate, OOS, international. I would assume that in-state students hear at a different time, but that is only speculation. Can anybody in-the-know back that up? Good luck, Applepie!

@VailsMom Yes, I am in-state. Since your son and I got our letters at relatively the same time, I’m not too sure how different the response time is.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted! If you haven’t heard yet, don’t worry…their website is vague but I think a lot of letters go out in March

I received my acceptance letter around mid-March. I’m international, though.
