Exactly. My memory of fraternity rush and what I have heard of today’s is a process of mututal selection (Without all the beer, thankfully! God must look after fools and fraternity brothers/pledges/candidates.) What worked out quite well for me 30+ years ago at one school is not what clicked for my son at his school or for my daughter. AVA55’s comparison of fraternity and sorority rush matches what I’ve heard - the sorority rush is much more structured.

A top Fraternity, that is laid back and has some really great guys, is St. Anthony’s Hall, also call “The Hall”.

St. Anthony’s is Laid Back???

Agree with Charlie…St. A’s is anything but laid back. You need a double barrelled first name (H. Worthington Jones IV) and a big bank account to walk through the front door.

There’s a UVA female student who made a pretty funny YouTube video mocking some of the stereotypes of a few of the more recognized fraternities on campus. I don’t think CC allows YouTube links, so I won’t post it, but you can search for it by simply typing “UVA Fraternity Rush”.

There are plenty of laid-back houses at UVA, especially some that may be less visible than the “big names.” If you’re looking for laid-back brotherhood, you’ll probably be more interested in one of those houses. There are 28 chapters in the Inter-Fraternity Council - there’s definitely some significant differences between those houses.

Get to know guys in your classes and the other organizations you’re in first semester - that will help you a lot when it’s time to rush and you know guys that you get along well with and feel have the same priorities as you.
