@Qwerty568, as a fellow Midwesterner like @EllieMom, I much prefer Great Lakes beaches over ocean beaches.
And @MYOS1634, we call the sandy areas by the Great Lakes “beaches” if they’re flat. “Dunes” if they rise up. I’m not sure what else you’d call a sandy area by a big body of water (that looks like the ocean) if not a “beach”.
Have you looked at the student life sections of the website to learn more about extracurriculars like clubs/
MYOS, if you’re in downtown Chicago, you might go visit the North Avenue Beach or Oak Street Beach. Here’s the list of Chicago beaches. http://www.cpdbeaches.com/home.cfm
Northwestern, which is maybe 10 miles south of Lake Forest College on the lakefront, has two beaches on campus.
Now you know something new!
I realize I’ve only been there in the Winter, so that it was snowy or frozen (and quite unhospitable to swimsuit-wearing people :p…) Which may explain why it doesn’t evoke “beach” to me, too!
Fair enough! Now you know!
Lake Forest College (LFC) is definitely not a commuter school…most students stay on the weekends. They have a very diverse student body. The beach is one mile from campus. LFC has an off-campus program in the heart of Chicago where you can live and take classes in addition to traditional semester abroad. Also, I believe the school has a relationship with Roosevelt Hospital for premeds, that is in close proximity to the school. Good rate of admission to medical school. As well, i believe they have neuroscience. They are also big on student research. I would visit both schools to see what is a better fit. I know about LFC bc our older daughter almost went there (she goes to Occidental) and our younger is looking at LFC in a few weeks!
