Is it a good school?
Has anyone on CC have visited/attended it?
How close is it to Chicago and Milwaukee?

I lived next to Lake Forest, one of the richest towns in IL, for many years. One of my sons was borned in Lake Forest Hospital. But I knew little about LFA, not even where exactly it was.

As for the area, it is really nice, close to Lake Michigan, about 30min each to downtown Chicago and Milwaukee. It is in a suburb setting but close to everything.

LFA is probably not for local kids, since I haven’t heard anyone I knew back then sending their kids there, more in some other private day schools.

Although we no longer live in the area, we lived on Chicago’s North Shore for many years. Two of my children attended Lake Forest Academy. It’s a very good school. Contrary to what FayMom says, LFA is for local kids – approximately half of the students are boarders and half are local day students. It’s about an hour on the commuter train to downtown Chicago and about a 45 minute drive to the city (depending on traffic). Milwaukee is about an hour north – not 30 minutes. The school is not walkable to downtown Lake Forest, but the school runs frequent shuttles to the small downtown area and the train station, as well as to nearby shopping malls. The website will give you more information.

Coming late to this thread, but…I used to live in Lake Forest, and it is a great town. Beautiful, close to Chicago, right on Lake Michigan, and very safe. LFA has a very strong reputation, is a beautiful school, and is definitely used by both locals and out-of-towners - pretty much just supporting louisaj’s post!

One of my very closest friends was a teacher at Lake Forest some years ago. He said when he left its reputation was on the rise, but still was not considered an elite school. He said the Headmaster is an absolutely fantastic guy and holds “niceness” to be of the utmost importance.
