Lakeside for freshmen?

I’m going to be a freshmen at UF in the fall and I’ve found 3 girls I want to room with, and we’ve all decided on lakeside, with Beaty as or second choice to live in. But lately I’ve heard really bad things about lakeside and I’m getting a little nervous about the distance and bus and social aspect. I will most likely have a scooter/moped if that will be helpful. Can anyone give me information on this?

Hi! I would also like to hear more information about Lakeside too. :slight_smile: My sister and I want to room there this summer!

Hey! I’ve had a few friends live in Lakeside. One of them was a guy who wasn’t the most social to begin with. He got along with his roommates, but wasn’t close with them (they were randoms), and made most of his friends in his fraternity (and spent most of his time at the fraternity house, honestly). I don’t really know the other friends’ opinions though lol

So anyway, Lakeside is too far from most places on campus to reasonably walk. There ARE a few buses that go by there - but do you really want to 100% (or even 90%) rely on the bus system to get around?

It probably wouldn’t be as bad with a scooter, though note that scooters tend to break down pretty often, are dangerous (I’ve heard LOTS of stories about accidents, including fatal ones sadly), and can have trouble starting up if it gets too cold. Also, it’d suck to deal with a scooter in the rain, just sayin’. AND you have to worry about parking (which can be hard to come by! Library West’s scooter spots are almost always full whenever I walk by)

Beaty is pretty nice! It’s pretty small, but the location’s good. And, like Lakeside, you’d have a kitchen in your suite! Plus, Beaty is right by all the main “freshman” dorms, so you’ll easily be able to befriend people from Broward, Jennings, Rawlings, Reid, Yulee, and Mallory (and now Cypress, too!).

Have you guys considered Keys? It’s VERY similar in layout to Lakeside, but much closer to the center of campus! I had a friend who lived there and she loved it.

For summer, Lakeside isn’t bad if you have no other options, but I’d possibly consider something like the Murphree area - MUCH better location!

@PinkLoveSunshine Thank you!
