@medici1492, this thread was from recalls last year–
Rodney Cottier, Head of the Drama School, is usually one of the LAMDA auditors but I wouldn’t know for sure. Maybe your kid could look at the faculty list here and see if any of them are the people you describe. https://www.lamda.org.uk/about-lamda/lamda-faculty-and-staff
Hello to all. I was seeking information about LAMDA auditions for my D for this year, and found this thread. I would LOVE to hear how the time-line did actually play out for LAMDA, since we are very interested. It would be great to hear if anyone was accepted! We were told informally that they take 4-5 Americans most years, I’d love to know if that matched your experience. It sounds like the timing is really off the US dates, though, which must be rough!
My D was accepted last year for the BA. I think LAMDA accepted 6 Americans (3M,3F), but only one of those right out of high school. Out of a class of 30, maybe 5-6 are right out of high school (18 yr. olds). LAMDA is really good with their timelines. My D auditioned last year on 2/21 in the US for her initial audition, callback was in NYC 3/16, and she was notified of acceptance by phone call from Rodney Cottier on 4/8 (almost spot on 3 weeks after callback, as promised). It’s a little later than US schools, but they admit the Americans much earlier than the remainder of the class. They didn’t complete UK acceptances until about the end of June. D is having a great time at LAMDA, but very intense conservatory training. They go from 9 am to 9 pm most days with only Sundays and Wednesday afternoons guaranteed offtime. My impression is you must be very committed to a career in professional acting to be in this program. No academic classes (except maybe “History of Acting”), but you do graduate in 3 years with a BA conferred by the University of Kent.
@ThespDad17 Congrats to your D on a LAMDA acceptance and enrollment! Am I right she was the one straight out of High School? Yes, we have heard they prefer older students. My D remains super interested in them. She studied at RADA this summer for five weeks in their Summer Shakespeare program. I imagine they must look for maturity and commitment in addition to Talent. All thoughts welcomed! It would be a dream for my D.
Yes, she is the 18 year old. The audition and callback are intense and interesting. I guess they can look at the resume to see commitment, but not sure how they can assess maturity in such a limited time so focused on acting. They seem to be singularly focused on talent or potential. D was very happy to get the offer and is very happy in the program. It is intense and challenging, but she is learning a lot.
