Landmark vs Zaragon

Hey guys,

I'm hoping to get some input on you guys about housing next year.

I'm looking to live in either Landmark or Zaragon. Is there anyone who has experienced (by themselves or vicariously) the differences between the two?

Both of them offer 12 month leases (sucks). However, Zaragon will cost about a 1000$ more by the end of the year.

Which one would you recommend? If it helps I'm going to be a sophomore next year (would prefer one with more sophomores/undergrads), may/may not be in Ross.

Thanks :)

Also Zaragon Place not West.

Zaragon has a slightly better location, but Landmark is bigger and has way more amenities. They’re both probably almost totally leased out by now though.

I don’t get why people live in either of those places.

You can easily find a 1 BR/studio apartments with your own kitchen/bathroom for under $1000 at other places;

https://cribspot.com/rental/University_of_Michigan-Ann_Arbor

I personally don’t really like Zaragon. It has a very industrial feel to it as there are pipes on the ceiling and the walls are painted oddly. The only thing that makes it better than Zaragon is a bigger kitchen/living room. Landmark is newer so it looks nicer and has cool stuff like a TV in each bedroom and a hot tub . It also has a lot of parties. I know a lot of sophomores who live there.

Both places, along with Sterling 411 and Zaragon West, are kind a rip off. They say it’s cheaper than dorms but keep in mind that dorms include food and you don’t need to deal with sublets. The furniture is very minimalist: it is obvious that the chairs, desks and beds are made out of very cheap materials but they make them look fancy and modern. The bedrooms are tiny too. Obviously they are a lot better than places like U Towers but you don’t really get what you should for the amount you pay.

I don’t get why anyone would want to live in a 1 BR apartment in college…

I wish I was made of money…

@maizeandblue21,

Zaragon is definitely not completely leased out, I just spoke to someone there and they still have 4 and 2 bedroom apartments left.

@ForeverAlone,

I don’t include myself in that group, but in my opinion places like Zaragon and Landmark cater to people who don’t mind paying that extra amount for luxurious living. Also it contributes to status and basically shows you’re well off.

@bluedevilsfan,

Thanks, that’s really helpful tbh. I’m not sure how to say this without coming off as obnoxious, but I’m not too concerned about value for money. Regardless, what places would you suggest have the best value for money if you think that these places don’t offer that? By any chance, do you know if most people are able to sublet their apartment or not?

Thanks guys.

U Towers is old and kinda run down but is amazing location and if you share a bedroom it is only like 450 a month vs 1100 to 1200 a month for Zaragon/Landmark. Other then that there’s Corner House above Bdubs which is also good location and reasonable price and there’s another place on Geddes that has a worst location but is cheaper.

You might also want to consider staying in dorms again. Stockwell and North Quad are super nice with great location and most rooms are reserved just for sophomores. You will meet more people there and it is nice to have the convenience of the dining hall. You get less space for your money though.

I don’t know about their differences, but they definitely share the characteristic of being grossly overpriced. The only places around campus that are more of a ripoff than actual university housing itself are these two places. Hah.

@bluedevilsfan,

Yeah to me its between Landmark and Stockwell/NQ. I was considering UTowers, but once I entered I was sure I didn’t want to live there for a year. I’ll definitely check Corner House out, don’t know why I haven’t heard of it.

@entenduintransit,

Ehhh are the really a bigger ripoff than the university housing? Have you seen the rooms in Markley??!?!?! 1300$ a month for that crap haha.

I’m leaning towards Landmark but University Housing doesn’t seem that bad. Only problem about NQ is that there is no gym nearby. :(

University housing is around $900 a month.

I remember my freshman year that housing + meal plan together was like a few hundred away from $10k. and the meal plan listed on their site is a little less than $2k.

Yea i know someone already posted about it but if that’s what you’re looking for there are still tons of options available that will be cheaper.

If price is no object then I’d say it’s just whichever “feel” you like better. Visit a few times.
